Vietnam witnessed the lowest level of rice exports in July since the beginning of 2016, according to Vietnam Industry and Trade Information Center (VITIC) on Thursday.

In July, Vietnam exported over 286,688 tons of rice, earning 127.2 million US dollars, a decrease of 12 percent in volume and 85 percent in value over the previous month, VITIC quoted statistics of Vietnam General Department of Customs as saying.

Compared to the same period in 2015, the July figure posted a decrease of over 53 percent in volume and 50 percent in value.

All markets of Vietnamese rice saw downtrend in revenue in July due to plunge in export price.

Vietnamese rice was sold at the lowest level compared to other regional rice exporters. Price of Vietnam's 5-percent broken rice was 370-380 US dollars per ton while that of Thailand was over 400 US dollars, said VITIC.

Amid the sluggish situation, the Vietnam Food Association decided to lower rice export target to 5.65 million tons in 2016 from the previous target of 6.5 million tons. As such, this will be the first time in many years that Vietnam saw an under-6-million-ton rice export volume.

Recently, Vietnamese agricultural experts have expressed concerns over the risk that Vietnam may lose its position as the world's third largest rice exporter as the country saw significant declines in rice exports so far this year.

In the first seven months of 2016, Vietnam exported some 2.94 million tons of rice, earning around 1.32 billion US dollars, down 18.2 percent in volume and 14.2 percent in value year-on-year, according to Vietnamese customs statistics.

. . . .
The belly filler rice that can be harvested multiple times per years is not a good income earner. Its good for food security but maybe Vietnam and China should concentrate on also planting lower yielding but better tasting premium rice which have better market prices and profitability.

In this day and age, the times of poor food security in China and Vietnam should be over. If the governments should focus on cutting meat consumption and cut feeding staple foods like corn and soy to pigs and cows, there is is more than enough food to go around.

A higher plant based diet is better for environment, better for conscience, better for health and better for food security.

Sure, but no body knows. We can all just assume it to be that way

That's a conscious, vegetarian-oriented post, which I agree.

I know we have shared numerous posts about China's research on rice cultivation and yield. China has also made potato as one of staples in terms of production and consumption.

I agree that it is a healthier choice to reduce dramatically on meat consumption (except, perhaps, fish). China is not one of the top consumers, but, it still consumes too much, in my opinion.

On the other hand, it has also been argued that less meat consumption will lead to a more docile national psyche. That's the last thing we would want now; China needs to get a bit more aggressive, in my view, and this starts from the individual and then extends into foreign policy.

Expected to happen. Earlier China was a net exporter in agriculture. But today, China is the largest importer. It has more to do with rising incomes, and demands not keeping up with production increases.

That's not a big blow on Vietnamese export, apparently, as it holds about 1.5% share in total export.
it is a hard hit for the farmers, but not for the whole export industry, which is still growing.

Many businesses are worried not keep up with production order signed.

We are urgently build factories to increase capacity. Now not worry anymore that quality has to worry how fast to close the container exports.
Pham Thanh Binh (general manager Bich Chi Food Corporation).
Take me to go see the production workshop, Pham Thanh Binh, General Director of JSC in Ho Bich Chi Food Sa Dec, Dong Thap - said 2014 pretax profit of the company more than 50 billion, higher than the capital.

We see her eyes widened, he Binh laughed: "Many people do not believe, but it's true. We publicize all information and dividends. Largely due to the export of products from rice flour ".

High export value

Currently the company produces more than 160 Bich Chi commodities under four product lines: noodles, noodles, rice noodles, vermicelli, bread dry question; roll; nutrition powder, flour food and prawn crackers.

In 2014 the company produced more than 20,000 tonnes of finished products, of which over 60% is exported. The remaining production orders of the large supermarket chains in the country.

The products from rice flour company's market presence in Europe, America, Japan, South Korea and ASEAN countries.

"Although the noodles Bich Chi has exported to Japan for 12 years but as to Japan, in the Vietnamese noodle shop in Tokyo I still feel happy to see noodle brand their company used to sell for processing Guest. The Japanese enjoyed pho VN. Also in Paris (France) with more than 120 noodle noodle shop using imported from VN. Noodles, rice vermicelli of VN produce that consumers liked, "Binh said.

And at JSC Sa Giang Import Export at Sa Dec city, continuous two weeks beginning May 3/2015 two Japanese experts were sent to the factory to check and supervise all production processes noodles, rice noodles and take samples for testing in place before signing a big contract put products into supermarket chain AEON in Japan and around the world.

Most production processes of companies are automated, from the first stitch to stitch mashed into powder product finally. Workers just cut and packaged rice paper quantitatively which customers demand.

She flange stirring, deputy director of the company, his enthusiasm for Japanese experts has completed inspection and assessment meet their strict criteria.

"We are worried not keep up production to delivery. Consumption of large AEON supermarkets but require very high. They did not close the 200-400 gram weight / package as other markets that require close 10-50 gram / packet processing Japanese dishes. Export price offset is very good, "she said stirring.

From mid-May 3/2015, the company began manufacturing Sagiang the first shipment to Japan.

4 times higher value rice exports

Still according to Pham Thanh Binh, products manufactured from rice flour delivers value four times higher than rice. Mr. Binh cited: "The average rice export only 10,000 VND / kg. And we made noodles for 2 dollars, or 44,000 VND / kg.

For 1kg of noodles, we need 1.1 kg of rice. That added value is divided by the company's employees, the employees of establishments producing pulp, packaging production enterprises, transport, the shareholders of the business, pay taxes ... Obviously efficiency economics of exporting products from rice flour is now very large. "

If rice exporters must meet the standards rate is 25% broken, 15% or 5% of the raw materials is only broken rice - a byproduct of milling, processing and export of rice can not be . Depending on customer requirements, businesses can use IR50404 rice plate or plate of fragrant rice.

Whether it kind whatsoever input prices were also lower than white rice export standards. And products after processing, export, has a very high price. Because consumers in the hard market has favored noodles, noodles, rice vermicelli, rice paper ... of VN should Company Sa Giang Bich Chi and very confident to invest in research for new products and buy procurement systems of modern machinery to expand production.

According to the MPC Sa Dec, trim products from local rice quickly famous in the world thanks to effects from Sa Dec powder village has more than 100 years old. Skilled, experienced people of extremely high quality of flour produces very tasty and export standards, businesses are consuming large amounts.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Chanh, Deputy Economic Chamber Sa Dec city, said the average daily meal Sa Dec villages, mainly in Tan Phu Dong, consuming 100 tons of rice and broken to produce. Calculate the village flour consumption has contributed more than 36,000 tons of rice from farmers each year.

"Exports of products from rice flour also increased a great opportunity for people to Sa Dec villages powder. The city has also organized seminars branding and career development investments powder production towards automation to increase productivity, quality meet export requirements "- Mr. Parent said.
