Vietnam says it will not join any anti-China alliance

August 25, 2021

VIETNAM said ahead of a visit from US Vice-President Kamala Harris today that it would not be dragged into any anti-China alliance in the Far East.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met Chinese envoy Xiong Bo and stressed that differences over maritime rights would not see Vietnam abandon an independent foreign policy rooted in support for multilateralism.

Vietnam would work to build trust, exchanges and co-operation with China, Mr Pham said.

He added that he hoped China would work through the Association of South-East Asian Nations to work out codes of conduct in disputed waters.

Mr Xiong said Vietnam and China shared communist political systems and beliefs and should work together.

The US has military bases in many of China’s neighbours including Japan and South Korea, and has worked to build a new alliance known as the Quad with India, Australia and Japan to encircle China.

Ms Harris said today she hoped Vietnam would appreciate a greater US naval presence along Asia’s coasts to protect it from Chinese “bullying.”

If true a very smart move.. US is not to be trusted under any circumstnces.
Prime Minister met Chinese envoy while their president meeting with US vice president. :disagree:

Jesus, chinese ambassador and US ambassador meeting in Vietnam in the same day.

This is a busy period.

The USA is retreating from the first island chain to the second island chain. If they send troops to Vietnam, it's like sending hostages to China. It's easy for us to encircle them in Vietnam's ports, at least easier than encircling Japan's ports.

ASEAN is very vigilant to intervene in the competition between China and the USA, especially to be used by the USA. If the USA really intervenes in Vietnam, we are likely to get more support from other ASEAN members

To tell the truth, we are not afraid of the U.S. garrison in Vietnam. We are more worried about the USA undermining China's investment in Vietnam, even inciting Vietnam's civil strife and driving Vietnamese refugees into China.

It can destroy China's economic layout and COVID19 prevention front, and disrupt ASEAN, China's largest trading partner. It is blow to China is much stronger than Trump's trade war, let alone Several warships which dare not fire.

The smarter move is not to trust either of them and stay on the fence to extract maximum benefits.
Singapore is much smarter than Vietnam.
the PLA doesn’t threaten with invasion when you host US warships, provide logistics and everything else. You get both US money and chinese money. How do you do that?
Interestingly the US apparently chooses VN and SG as strategic partners, instead the bigger Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines.
Simply expensive
Harris’s diplomats sign up a plan to construct a new giant 1.2 billion USD embassy in Hanoi.

US to spend $1.2 billion on new embassy in Hanoi

Singapore is paying the price of hosting US base and losing her independence in handling NED sponsored NGOs and personality. There are many perversion here such as LGBT, cancel culture, everything-offensive-culture...etc. The harm is already done.

The future of Singapore is bad.

There is only two big countries that has ever threaten Singapore's sovereignty. If Singapore is ever invaded by either of these two countries will China or US risk their relationship with these two countries to rescue Singapore?

What choices do Singapore have?
