For Molniya : Vietnam buy or build a duet a time. AT this moment there recorded 4 duets with 8 boats, each boat bring 16 KH-35 antiship missiles. Each costs about 65-67 million USD.

1st duet: made in Russia : so called HQ-375, HQ-376

2nd duet : Vietnam completed and transfered M1, M2 to Vietnam Navy : called HQ-377, HQ-378

3rd duet: M3, M4 under sea trial

4th duet: M5, M6 ( during overall assembly )

it makes a lot of sense..these boats are highly capable to sneak in,fire and scoot..43 years ago,India conducted similar missions with less capable missile boats with deadly effect...

China Navy is using Z9 helicopter with light anti-ship missile..
We also have Z8 for majority transportation and Ka28 for anti-submarine

That's shoreline boats. The current air defense ability depends on 12x Igla-S and 2xAK630

Of course if you are one ship vs another ship, it is still not a bad option

Of course if you are one ship vs another ship, it is still not a bad option

You have a point, of course, however, Vietnam will probably send out their Su-27s and Su-30s to support these ships in operations. So that should also be considered.

Its similar to the 大小 concept in Bushido code of battle. Never go to battle with only one blade, but carry a secondary support:

It's make sense for vietnam to have these missile gunboat if they are to target Chinese ships or base since they are close proximity between Vietnam and hainan.

These gunboat when sail out at night and stay near merchant ships or fishing boat. They will be hard to detect due to its ship radar signature. But I am sure China will have a close surveillance/ monitor of these fast boat.

They serve the same purpose of PLAN FAC 022.

If Vietnam is fighting China, their weapon is far from enough..
Their limited Su 30 and S27 may not threat the China fleet with 052D/052C/054...

Precisely the reason why Vietnam has been prudent in reaction. They do not have the force to resist China militarily in open seas. If Vietnam did instigate a military offensive, I believe Vietnam People's Navy would be pulverize by the South Sea Fleet of the PLAN. At the same time, the South Sea Fleet would probably suffer some heavy losses in its fleet vessels, notably, its Frigates. If a land war escalated, then, God help China and Vietnam. Regional Instability would manifest.
