The Vishwa Hindu Parishad is not a big fan of inter-religious marriage. And they have left no stones unturned to prove that time and again. However, this time, a bunch of VHP activists in Bhopal are opposing a marriage where both the bride and the groom claim to be Hindu, reports Indian Express.

The reason? They believe that 28-year-old Vishal Mitra is a Christian and 27-year-old Ritu Dubey have "mentally converted to Christianity".

They apparently have solid reasons for these beliefs too.

In 2013, Vishal had played guitar at an event in a church in Bhopal. Therefore, according to their logic, he follows Christianity. Meanwhile, Ritu has reportedly stopped wearing bindi and refused to pray to Hindu Gods since she met Vishal. So, she has shown signs of being "mentally converted to Christianity".

On Tuesday, when Vishal, who works as a manager with a Bhopal-based building firm, and Ritu, who is a probationary officer with the Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Indore, were registering their marriage under the Special Marriage Act, VHP activists gathered outside the Additional District Magistrate's to stop the marriage.

VHP leader and former Bajrang Dal convener Devendra Rawat told Express that Ritu's mother gave an affidavit stating that Vishal was a Christian and a probe should be conducted to establish the truth.

However, when it was established that they are both Hindus, Rawat claimed victory.

"In a way it's a victory for us because, despite being a Christian, the boy has agreed to be a Hindu, which is what we wanted," he said.
