Bangladesh on Friday welcomed the decision of inviting India as 'Guest of Honor' at the 46th Session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers held in Abu Dhabi.

Speaking exclusively to India Today, Bangladesh's Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen emphasised that given India's massive Muslim population, she should be a part of the OIC. "India is a land of cultural, religious diversity and of tolerance. 1.85 million Muslims live in India so obviously they should be part of the OIC", he said.

There was much talk about Pakistan's absence at ministerial level at the conference. When asked, the Bangladeshi minister called it "unfortunate" and told Pakistan to "look beyond".

He said that Pakistan should emulate what India and Bangladesh have done as neighbours.

"That is very unfortunate. I think it is time to look beyond. We should be mature. The relationship between Bangladesh and India has reached a height of maturity which other people should imitate", he said.

There was a bilateral meeting that was held between the foreign ministers of Bangladesh and India where all issues of convergences and differences were discussed. Bangladesh raised the issue of the Rohingya.

"We had a good meeting. Issues of mutual interest wwere discussed. We have a few challenges. One challenge is the Rohingya issue. India is with us, they are supporting and helping us, they are also helping Myanmar in building infrastructure so that they can create a conducive environment in the Rakhine State so that the Rohingya people can go back", he said.

Momen also stressed on the need for "connectivity" in the economic sphere.

"Economic is the other aspect. Connectivity is productivity. We have a long tradition of relationship of trust and confidence. We have opened up our borders and solved many major problems. Discussed new avenues of economic partnership", he said regarding the meeting with EAM Sushma Swaraj.

Killing muslims from Gujrat to Kashmir and OIC now making them guest of Honor. WHERE MUSLIM HONOR GONE? Shameless people who claim to be Muslim. Big shame to all of them

.
All of us in South Asia were colonized.

And continue to bear the repercussions of that colonization.

The current BD govt is no doubt subservient to India.

But to generalize the whole nation.....

Grow up bud.

Bangladeshi support for India is not homogenous amongst the common man.

I can't speak for those in Bangladesh, but from the Bengalis i know in the US
all whole heartedly support Pakistan/Kashmir.

Whether you recognize it or not, creating animosity between BD and PK will ultimately be bad for both BD and PK.

So cut the racist generalizations.

You guys have much more important things to worry about right now.

Appologies, I got carried away.
Yes you are right, most Bengalis I have met are been great people.

I just hope your country can be fully independent from India like ours is.

.
GoP has made a diplomatic blunder.

There is no shame in accepting this.

.
What kind of people these Bangladeshis are.
They tried their level best to provoke Pakistan. Now they are trying to be Mother Taressa. What the hell wrong with you guys.
Just decide, whether you want Pakistan to get punished or you want peace.
Bangladesh always maintains status quo and aspire for integrated south asia which includes Pakistan. Terrorism affects everybody which did not even spare our PM's life. When investigated most of them led to Pakistani connection (no matter how you want to disagree). I know most of your civilian leaders probably not aware of if (same of the case for Bin Laden hideouts) but we the outsider will always blame it to the to leadership to act upon.

We literally showed the world that we want peace and de-escalation.

Look I understand that you need to appease your Indian masters, but try not to stoop to their level.

Best bangladesh can do, is to change its name to Bengal state of India, so world could really understand from. Where it really belongs?

Sure you dont want war with India. That does not mean you will de escalate in Kashmir.
Look I understand that you need to appease your Indian masters, but try not to stoop to their level.

Actually we have our own way and somehow if it coincide with India's interest then so be it.. good for everybody. We have zero tolerance against all non state actor. Its time for economic take off..

Again, IK has literally said we want to deescalate the situation multiple times. But we will not backdown from a fight. The ball is only in India's court, they can escalate or deescalte.

I'm sorry but either your "own way" magically aligns with India perfectly (Even US and Canada do not perfectly align) or you don't really have a say in it.

As far as non state actors go, you can't stop people from wanting freedom after they have witnessed tyrany. Bangladesh of all people should know this.

And agreed, time for economic takeoff. Indian needs to put it's politics of hatred and bigotrey behind it and work with all it's neighbor to create peace and prosperity.

.
Has south sudan spoken again???

Why listen to the words of cowards?

I hope people will not cross border and attack Indian parliament or Taj hotel from Pakistan next time. There are a lot of grey area in Kashmir we know that.

Thats your understanding. We the one offered first secular constitution in South Asia which encouraged India to follow through. I believe Bangladesh contributed for Indian muslim whereas Pakistan did the opposite.

Not true. Without a state patronage the non state actor's capability will be limited.

If that means handing over Kashmir to Pakistan, then you are a non starter.

.
mother....er are killing Kashmir and you want us to make them guest of honor bastards

Pakistan sells weapon to Myanmar. Nothing else needs to be said here.

Pakistan is getting isolated for their stupidity. BD, UAE, KSA, and all the other Muslim majority countries support India's inclusion in OIC.

PAK'S opinion doesn't matter here.
