Yes - that is really going to make the Banglas feel better.

. .
I am not being sarcastic, although this will sound diabolical. Pakistan and China should covertly encourage India to physically and overtly invade BD. The resultant bogging down of a large force and astronomical expenditure will bleed India white and prepare her for invasion by Pakistan. We will then fight the true Liberation War and give the invader the treatment we had meted out to the Mughal Gen Ma'n Singh and Maratha Gen Bhaskar Pandit. Indian infiltration in BD is so deep and intense that only a liberation war can cleanse the ingress. Not only us but others like the Sikhs, Kashmiris, Tamils and NE peoples will be able to throw out the yoke of India.

Terrific plan!!

@Anubis @bongbang @Doyalbaba @BDforever the opportunity to know such brilliant ideas always compels me to keep coming back to BD section. :-)

thank you all Bangladeshis, especially @asad71 @MBI Munshi @idune @kalu miah for adding these little pleasures to my life, i wish there are more like you here in BD section. :yes4:

It is a simply case of savings for India in terms of time and money. Is it worth paying 1000 tk or for that amount is it cheaper to use the longer Indian route? Either way - even a price of 192 means it will push more private players to use this route and thus lead to higher volumes which in turn leads to more money for Bangladesh. If 10000 tonnes is transported using the same road for 192 - you get more money than if 10 tonnes is transported at 1000 tk.

.
Bangldesh is not marketing its road to India. Its India's persistence to allow them the transit. We are merely asking the cost of using it. Roads are built on people's money which Indian tax payer did not pay for.

But we did pay, what was the grant and soft loan for? :)

You are missing the transport cost part, which is far bigger amount that Bangladesh can earn.

Rizvi likens transit to selling off independence

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday said allowing transit for India is synonymous to selling off country’s independence at a cheap rate.

Addressing a discussion meeting at the National Press Club, the BNP leader condemned the decision of Awami League led government and feared that the decision may threaten Bangladesh’s security.

A civic platform called Swadhinata Forum organised the discussion meeting marking the anniversary of death of BNP’s founder and country’s assassinated president Ziaur Rahman.

“The land transit given to India from Akhaura to Agartala is a conspiratorial move, and it is like selling off country’s independence at a cheap rate. The AL government has sold out its soul to the neighbouring country.”

The BNP leader alleged that the AL government, in fact, has allowed India a corridor through Bangladesh in the name of transit.

both asad71 and mbimunsi have good points but its usually hidden inside tonnes of crap, so people just ignore them...

what if we start demanding such crazy rates for all Bangladeshi transports to different countries? You don't even have the option to bypass us.

we hold the keys to all the land routes from Bangladesh.

Now you just sound stupid, what land route through india do we use to export to other countries? All our export apart from Nepal and Bhutan are through our seaports.

I think you have it the other way around. Tonnes of good points with just a sprinkling of crap ...

If india wanted to bully then why the pay the transit fee at all? Fact is that you have anti-india mindset which propels you to look every thing from that perspective.

There is a difference between needs & wants. As I said if tariff is unviable India will continue using Indian territory but it will take longer time. Just bcos bangladesh gives transit does not mean India will pay arm & leg for it. Economic viability will dictate the trade not your fancy fee structure.

As usual you can continue to rant & rave, keep harping that India is bullying, big brother, resist India, satellite of India ....etc instead of looking at economics, it will only show that you are pakistani cloaked as bangladeshi nothing more.

The calculation is that how much does it cost Indian companies to go around Bangladesh. I would assume more than that being demanded by Bangladesh for going through the country.

For perishable goods it makes no sense for such exorbitant rate and make it totally economically unviable. Non-perishable goods like steel,cement..etc can be stored for long period of time in storehouses and sold. As such it makes no sense to pay high premium and with good inventory management distance problem will be sorted out.

More ever with myanmar & thailand building highways NE area will get access to cheap materials sooner or later its just a matter of time.

By the way India is transporting goods for the past 60 years using chicken neck corridor and we will continue to do the same. We will continue to pay the same money to our railways and let them profit from it no issues.
Cant give into unreasonable & uneconomical demands, better luck for bangladesh else where for making easing money. :enjoy:
