The Airline i work for stopped flights to Venezuela but we had one machine left there in Caracas. Because of that a team was send to bring her home...

I had the opportunity to talk to one of them and what he told me is absolute shocking. Its beyond what you usually read in the media.

Entire caracas is dark at night. Electricity is shut down. The supermarkets are empty. No rice, no sugar, no flour, no noodles. Nothing. The only thing you can buy there is diet coke. The markets are full of diet coke. He said its the only thing they can produce because lack of sugar.

People are not allowed to go "shopping" as they want. They have special week days for each ending number of your passport.

The lanes infront the markets are 500 meters long. People are starving. Not only poor people but also the higher classes. He said even the air traffic controllers looked sick.

They live from cooked chicken skin, a few bones and a hand of rice they cook and eat and call it "Maduro diet".

I must say...i dont understand how this is possible. Venezuela is such a beautiful nation. Its full of natural wonders and fertile. Evrything grows there. It feels horrible to see a society collapsing.

When i was a kid we had an exchange studend from Venezuela at school. His name was Jose and he was a nice guy. I hope he and his family are fine.

But honestly i think Venezuela is way beyond the point of no return.

There's a whole bunch of threads in the America's forum stating how Venezuela is at the breaking point. Maduro is going to end up like Mussolini soon.

Oil crisis crippled their economy. This is a lesson to all oil dependent nations who think that all is hunky dory. If the oil prices fall one more time then it wont be long for more economies to crumble. I for one am glad that we dont have even a shred of oil based economy. We should explore shale reserves to overcome our internal needs.

Thats just not true.

The problem in Venezuela is much deeper. Chavez destroyed the country. He did buy evrything from outside even sugar and rice. He destroyed the local agriculture.

We are talking about one of the most fertile nations in the world here. Now they dont even have sugar or rice left. It was ineviteable that this system will crash.

Its rather kind of mystery that Venezuela is mainly an oil based economy but they cant produce enough electricity now, They have a fertile land but cant produce much to feed the Nation. Are the relations of the country so bad with its neighboring countries that no one is stepping in to help them out in this time of dire need? Hard lessons are supposed to be learnt by whole world from this very sad episode of Venezuela.

Wish other nations could send them food aid to elevate the conditions a little.

It's worse than that. When they saw how much money they were bringing in from oil they nationalized lots of other sectors and basically turned the country into a big welfare state. Now they actually need those sectors to be efficient but they are probably filled with croney managers and phantom employees. So everything is falling apart.

the Civil war prospect is looming there

Its all about planning and sustainable developed..Venezuela used its oil boom to fund socialism..when it dried..people will starve and die..Saudis used oil boom to fund development..they will survive...

Venezula wasted around 1 Trillion dollars which could have been invested at home..Chavez wanted to make friends with countries like Iran and Libiya rather look after his own people...everything gets exposed when easy money washes away!

there is fundamental differences between Saudi and Venezuela, Saudi although they had a lot of misuse of Oil money (to fund their war in Yemen, paying their proxies in Syria, and among other), they still had a liberalized economy system and quite content with that, a slightly contraction on their economy is what happened currently in Saudi. On other hands, Nationalization programme fervor and other socialist program in Venezuela had cripple much of their productivity and disrupt much of their logistic and consumer goods production and distribution process, in summary Venezuela economy had been crippled from within .

The saudis did the opposite.the used oil money to restructure sick national industries and prepared them for privatization. Aramco is one example which is under going IPO for 5% of its shares..
