US won't object to Nuclear deal between Pakistan & China: US envoy

The US will not object to any civil nuclear deal between Pakistan and China if it abides by international rules of such agreements, and chances of the US making such a deal with Pakistan too cannot be ruled out, the American envoy here has said.

US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter said Friday that the US had recently made a civil nuclear deal with India and the chances of such a deal with Pakistan also cannot be ruled out, the Express Tribune reported.

Munter made the remarks while talking to media here.

Answering a question on the Pakistan's efforts to fight terrorism, he said the US wants Pakistan to launch a military operation in North Waziristan soon.

Munter said he would leave it to the Pakistan Army to decide when to launch such an operation.

The army has assured the US that they will take action in North Waziristan at the right time.

Pakistan has long been under pressure from the US to launch a military offensive in North Waziristan.

The foreign office, however, has denied being under US pressure to launch an offensive in the northwestern region which the US calls a "hub of militant activity", saying that the operation will be launched only if it is in Pakistan's "interest", the report said.

Last month, the daily reported that the government had authorised army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani to take a final decision on when and how to launch a military operation in the North Waziristan tribal region.

Now this is something new and different from their earlier stand. BUT what is the driving force ?

we will get the reactor no matter who opposes us and USA is not in position to take any economic war against China. Hence rather embarrassing itself its better to go with the flow. And may be make some money in the process..the highly cosmetic opposition to Pakistani nuke energy would have been for milking Indian ATM as well! Once the contracts are signed and work started I reckon that smaller American companies will be on the tide to sell 4-5 reactors to Pakistan as well provided we can pay for them.

The fact Pakistan is in such a mess is due to US policies. Had US approached, collaborated and assisted Pakistan on the same line as Turkey.

Nuclear Deals between Pakistan & China will take place under any circumstances even if west and US whines about it.

Its like calling the grapes sour. US does realize it has little to no power over a nuclear deal between China and Pakistan and so once they realized they could not stop it, they have dropped the opposition. Question is does it matter anymore since Pakistan is all clear about the US intentions and how from day 1 they have been opposing any nuclear collaboration with Pakistan. Last minute change wont help a change in perception.

Sweet grapes is when Pakistan gets a nuclear deal with China and USA both!
May be France can join the party followed by South Korea!

It's a typical US way of working....when they lose something then they try to use the soft corner but it will not work. They have offered a civil nuclear deal to India so why they opposed the same deal for Pakistan? We are the major non Nato ally...which benefit we get from this? Even now when they realise that Pak-China deal is soon to happen they are just claiming that such deal maybe not ruled out btw Pak-US, it still not 100% sure!:disagree:

I prefer China over US even if there are some concerns over tech issues but China is the most reliable ally then US.

.
i believe its a change of heart from USA side, since they are very eager for pakistan army to act in north wazristan (if i am not mistaken). they have been pushing for it since quite some time and general kayani has been avoiding.

and other ploy may also be to keep china's influence less into pakistan nuclear energy.

plus also try to rebuid their image as pakistans allay, friend, etc.

.
We have posed this question before, "is the US relevant?" -- It is a military super power, so that's a reality but is a nuclear deal with the US in the interests of Pakistan? of course not.

So, let them make their vague statements, "now you see it, now you don't" , such statements are meaningful only to US policy makers and do not inhabit any reality Pakistan interests also inhabit.

International rules. This is the catch. US knows Pakistan has snowballs chance in hell to get NSG waiver. This is smart diplomacy ;) the art of saying NO without actually uttering the word...

:bunny: Both us and our Chinese brothers contend that our agreement for the new reactors was grandfathered before China signed onto the NSG. And in the meeting in June - no one opposed it :china::pakistan::azn:
