US top diplomat sends a reconciliatory message to Pakistan

.
Alice Wells is not USA's top diplomat, not even close. Top US diplomat is technically Secretary of State Pompeo. The title of this thread is misleading.

Nevertheless, it really says something about the state of Pak-US relations when the senior most US diplomat is Alice Wells. Plus, US only has an acting ambassador to Pakistan and the Pakistan ambassador to US is just a seat warmer until the new government can appoint his replacement.

It will be interesting to see what direction this relation will go in the coming months.

Downwards. US is not in a habit of listening No but they will because IK is not a yes man.

.
This is not the first time that the US has used this kind of ploy. Within a few weeks if not days you'll hear an aggressive tone from another US diplomat. IK should know better what to make of such US gestures.

.
Seems like USA has no one speaking positive even on a public forum like this, as no one is giving f! to what USA is saying and sending. Its like from Pakistan's point of view, USA is a non-entity.

Why would US listen to IK? What can he possibly say to US that hasn't already been said? What leverage does he have?

I can ask you the same thing, why would you think IK will listen to US specially now when they hardly have any leverage left.
The point is that US was of this habit of arm twisting smaller nations including Pakistan to do its bidding. Successive corrupt governments of Pakistan just made it too easy however now it will not be business as usual.

Pakistan hasn't been listening to US since Trump became President, so I don't know what more IK can do besides repeating what already has been said. But we shall see...

WASHINGTON - United States (US) Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Alice Wells sends a reconciliatory message to Pakistan on the eve of Independence day.

She said that the US is keen to work with Pakistan to achieve stability and peace in South Asia.

Wells was addressing a ceremony regarding Independence Day in Washington where she also acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices in the ongoing war against terrorism.

Several dignitaries including Pakistan’s ambassador to the US Ali Jahangir Siddiqui were also in attendance.

Earlier on August 14, United States Secretary Michael Pompeo had said that the US hopes to further strengthen ties with Pakistan in the coming years and work with the government to advance shared goals of security, stability and prosperity in South Asia, even though Washington has stepped up pressure on Islamabad by cutting down vital military assistance to the country.

Wishing the people on the 72nd Independence Day, Pompeo, in a statement, had said, “For more than seven decades, the relationship between the US and Pakistan has rested on the strong foundation of close ties between our people.”
F off...go to delhi you traitors

You are not getting it. If you think Pakistan wasnt listening than (I disagree) what do you think will happen now? US accused us of deceit and lies, stopped all aid, reimbursements, stopped cobras, pushed us to FATF grey list and now trying to arm twist IMF. Previously Pakistan did not reacted on any of the provocative acts, I am only saying this time it would be different because we will start reacting for the first time and US will not like it.

I disagree. US has been reacting to Pakistan.

Pak-US relations have been deteriorating since the Obama Administration? US started cutting aid then and has continued -- even more sharply -- under Trump.

What is IK going to exactly do that he hasn't already done before? Remember he's PM now and not some vocal member of the opposition.

America, things can never be the same...America has to first apologist to Pakistan and that must come from Donald Trump.

1) For the tweets against Pakistan.
2)For putting Pakistan into FATF grey list.
3) For Fat Pompeo statement abt IMF and Pakistan.
4) For holding off Pakistan's Coalition Support Fund, including the money they own to Pakistan for giving military access and logistics both in land and air.

Or else Fatty FM of America/CIA can come but he will only get advice from IK on improving his sex life n fitness.
