The US will deploy thousands of additional troops to the Middle East as tensions with Iran mount following the airstrike that killed Qasem Soleimani, a US defense official told CNN.

The additional troops will come from the Immediate Response Force of the 82nd Airborne Division. CNN has previously reported that these forces had been placed on prepare-to-deploy orders and would be sent to the region if the situation merited it.

Following the disturbance at the US embassy in Baghdad, the US deployed 750 troops from the same unit and said that additional deployments were possible.

The new deployment will encompass the rest of the brigade, typically about 3,000 soldiers.

@F-22Raptor if you really think you've done good here i hope to God almighty that you get drafted into the mess and see for yourself...

Soleimani was responsible for the death of hundreds of Americans. This should have been done years ago, and we continued to warn Iran that we would take necessary steps to protect our forces including preemptive action. We’re happy to send this butcher straight to hell.

Better start doing PT training for basic GI. This won't be like your granddad's draft and it won't end well for anyone...

America now has to actively fight, in order to maintain deterrence. THATS CRAZY!

It only 2 nukes to calm down the suicidal Japanese.
But in today's world, all nuclear powers are afraid to use their equipment. Times have changed and so have the perceptions about them and their usage.

Nope. Times have indeed changed but the US needs to remind the world why it is a super power and it must be feared.

The US recently pulled out of a nuclear treaty with Russia and also strongly indicated developing minituarised nuclear weapons. Now they just need a "strong" dummy to unleash their atomic terror on. Iran fits the description of "strong" experimental dummy very well.

If a few thousand body bags are sent back home then they will pack and will go home due to pressure at home.
