fumbling, feeble" by the chief of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), while the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) recommended the US take 17,000 Syrian refugees for resettlement.

"The administration is actively considering a range of approaches to be more responsive to the global refugee crisis, including with regard to refugee resettlement," Peter Boogaard, spokesman for the White House National Security Council, saidMonday.

In 2014, the US accepted only 132 Syrian refugees. Officials in Washington have previously said that the US would accept between 5,000 and 8,000 Syrian refugees over the next year. By contrast, Germany said it would take in 800,000 refugees this year.

The current refugee crisis broke out this spring, when tens of thousands of people crossed the Mediterranean Sea in attempt to reach safe havens of Europe, fleeing from war and conflicts in the Middle East. Approximately one third of them are Syrians, according to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), that estimated the number of Syrian refugees in neighboring countries at over 4 million people.

Those who survived the risky and illegal sea transit have flooded coastal countries in their attempt to reach the EU. Many have ignored asylum request rules, often continuing their trek on foot to the wealthier states of Northern Europe, such as Germany and Sweden, causing transportation gridlock in Hungary and at the German-Danish border.

Germany is going to take around a million this year. And they want to continue doing this for several more years.

Even though it wasn't Germany who spearheaded the NATO invasions of Iraq/Afghanistan/Libya in the past decade. Nor was it Germany who supported all the anti-Assad rebels in Syria, who unsurprisingly turned out to be ISIS and Al-Nusra.

They were participants but not the leaders.

.
Russia doesn't obliged to take responsibility of refugees since these are EU & US spreading mess in middle East and in Northern Africa. Russia shouldn't take responsibility. As Putin has mentioned that people are fleeing not because of Asad regime but US-GCC-EU-Turkey sponsored ISIS. So let them handle results of their mess....WHY RUSSIA?

That's what i am saying and said in another thread that US is sitting silent but put burden of its BS policies and mess on European States. EU should send 70% of refugees to US & UK.

Agreed, They should have pay price the mistake they made. But you hold only US/EU accountable, what about arab countries like Saudi Arabia?

.
Why blame the US all the time!??! Syria has dozens of rich neighbors and all what are they doing to ease the suffering of these people?

.
Now we believe the figures in the news? and it makes perfect sense!
Hypocrisy at its best....

Far better to neutralize Butcher Asad and block travel of terrorists aka 'desert fighter' brigade from Pakistan, traveling to Iran, Iraq and Syria.

I agree sir, not only modifying but actually making a very weak and controversial statement which is an own goal on Ummah's face

america and open arms?
what kind of thread are you making? USA or any other country out of that conflict zone can choose to reject any refugee. its not a right but a privilege given by the host state on humanitarian grounds. the Syrian neighbouring countries are distributing death by supporting their proxies in the Syrian war.. had they been accommodating then Germany or any other European country might not had to allow such large influx of people into their country.

.
Good to go hopeful for better future of refugees.

I changed the title on your request but I would rather stay away from this subject since you will bust my balls (good fellas) by reminding me about stranded Pakistanis.. so I am out after saying a few words to the OP

Well I'm sure some members here will be more happy than the Syrians. Since the biggest boogeyman of PDF , US is finally taking the Syrians.

Anyways Good for them since US is a multicultral society they'll be more happy there , maybe even more than Europe.
