‘US systematically violating human rights’

An independent geopolitical analyst says the US has been systematically violating UN declaration of human rights and the international law and the possible release of a CIA torture report by the Senate cannot put an end to these violations.

The Senate Intelligence Committee, which has been at loggerheads with the CIA over its “torturous” interrogation program carried out during the presidency of George W. Bush, is to vote on Thursday to declassify some parts of its report.

“The release of the CIA report is really going to change very little for a number of reasons first and foremost is the fact that much of the information that’s actually going to be released is really not from the body of the report itself. It is from the executive summary and from the conclusion and some of the outlying information,” said Eric Draitser in a phone interview with Press TV on Thursday.

Draitser, who is also the founder of stopamperialism.com, added that the main report will undoubtedly remain classified.

“The Senate subcommittee has already stated in the record that they are not interested in declassifying the body of the report which really contains some of the most damning information that would be of particular interest to the American people.”

He also believes that despite the difference between the Senate and the CIA, there has been a kind of collaboration between the executive branch, the Senate and the CIA over the issue.

“Remember that CIA is going to be- as the administration has said itself- intimately involved in the process of deciding what will be declassified so the idea that somehow president Obama is providing some degree of transparency and the Congress is providing transparency is complete nonsense,” said Draitser.

He further explained that “in fact those who are supposed to be exposed in this report they are the ones who are involved in the process of releasing it.”

“There is also the fact that systematic torture is something that nobody wants to talks about ..what they don’t want to discuss is a systematic torture that has occurred across multiple administrations, systematic violation of international law, systematic violation of the UN declaration of human rights and many other recognized international treaties.”
