The attack on former Global Times reporter Fu Guohao in 2019 was "ordered by US spy Mark Simon," the convicted attacker told the Hong Kong High Court on Thursday.

Amy Pat Wai-fan and Lai Yun-long, attackers of then-Global Times reporter Fu Guohao at the Hong Kong International Airport in August 2019, were found guilty of rioting and other crimes, and were sentenced to 51 months and 63 months in prison, respectively, in January. Later, the two appealed the conviction to the Hong Kong High Court.

On Thursday, Lai withdrew his appeal, but shouted, "I was ordered to do it by US spy Mark Simon! I have wronged Fu Guohao! I apologize to the 1.4 billion Chinese people!"

Pat admitted to assault and forced detention, but wanted a lighter sentence. She told the appeal judge that she had simply followed others in committing the crime and that she had never thought about its seriousness, and regretted her actions.

After hearing the arguments, the judge rejected her appeal.

Mark Simon, a top aide of imprisoned Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai, worked as a submarine analyst in the US Naval Intelligence from 1987 to 1991. He went to Hong Kong in 2000 and gained permanent residence there in 2008.

Simon was also chairman of the GOP's branch in Hong Kong. During the 2008 US presidential election, he organized a campaign with the US Chamber of Commerce and wrote a letter to an American broadcasting company seeking sponsorship, in which he identified himself as the branch's chairman.

Media reports also revealed that Lai's interactions with US senior officials during the 2014 illegal Occupy Central movement and the social turmoil in the summer of 2019 were arranged by Simon.

Lai and Simon invested at least HK$13.7 million in a scheme aimed at forcing the government to accede to protesters' demands, according to the court. Lai has been serving multiple jail terms for national security offenses, among other crimes.

Simon has left Hong Kong and is wanted by the Hong Kong police.

Looks like the "article" got taken down.

No source. No thread.

Here the source
This news also mentions Mark Simon was former employee of both CIA and The Office of Naval Intelligence, and I doubt Mark would meet the accused personally but planning and giving orders to those black rioters behind the scene was highly possible otherwise he wouldn't flee immediately once the national security is applied in HK.

I lost all respect for GT after they openly supported nuclear bombing of civilians . This is pure lunacy, many times worse than a cult, and absolutely abhorring.

This also mentioned netizens in china and seems it like has political backing, what are these netizens? Monsters?
And I personally would have no sympathy for such monsters.
If such is the offcial sentiment of China,I'd hope US & China, two monsters take each other out.I had sympathy for
China in its struggle for rise in an unfair western oriented world, the western hegemony, but I don't support if a nation was so inhumane and barbaric that it cherises nuclear bombing of civilians. A nation operated with such lack of empathy, virtue ,rectitude but high on lunacy is nothing short of a devilish Cult. Nobody would support a morally bankrupt nation.

Japan basically ‘nuclear bombed’ China by slaughtering millions of innocent Chinese people.

So many "former" CIA employes still working frantically as terrorists for the U.S. regime after quitting, only to join or set up jet another U.S. regime funded "independent" activist group or media agency. 🙄

There is no such thing as ‘former CIA’.
China should hunt down every single one of these terrorists in Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau.

This is a repeating U.S. regime script and the primary goal is to wash blood from U.S. hands with selfpity after and only when the recipients of U.S. violence and terror cant fight back or force the U.S. to pay reparations nevermind punish the U.S.A. for their behavior and crimes anyways. It has nothing to do with the right of civilians to live.
The secondary goal is turn the merely by violence domesticated inhumane and barbaric Japanese regime by proxy into a "victim" and withewash its warcriminal history, when its just one babaric country destroyed by another oppportunistic barbaric country trying to control Asia. At the same time they intentionally take away the the real victims of WW2.

In other words its a circlejerk between criminals that now joined hands and try to repeat their crimes.

Its only humane and righteous to call that out that BS.

Nuclear bombing of civilians is a fact, any one can say x y z killed millions casually. Mao kiled 100 million, see so easy.

Whether you think Japan killed millions, there's only chinese cheering bombing of civilians, chinese talk about 4000 yeas of civilization, but their mindset are still backward,Japan is richer in mindset and more mature.

Atleast US has the common sense to not cheer bombing of civilian.Only some chinese are lunatic to cherish that. No civilized nation from west would ever cherish any nuclear bombing of civilian no matter what.

It's quite ridiculous that you used the American farce Tokyo trial used for war justification propaganda to label Japan as war criminal and then turn around and accuse America of whitewashing;in reality you're just pissed America knows better than to celebrate nuclear bombing of civilians.
You say Japan & America was trying to control Asia, but fact is ,China is the world's 4th largest nation ,and absorbed non Han ,Tibet, and many other parts of current China that's how China got so big ,Japan is 62th largest nation by land mass.China claim 9 dash line now ,which nation as we type is trying to control asia? It's like keetle calling pot black.
I guess, expecting much sensitivity from the gen that grew up in anti japanese drama,tv shows ,dramatic youtube lips (but never lived through it are much more passionate anti japanese) , is vain ,the generation of drama queens.I hope the next gen will be more mature.
