Federal Minister for Defence Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar has said that the United States sold old F-16’s to Pakistan at higher rates.
Talking unofficially to the journalists in Washington, the minister said that the USA raised the prices of old F-16’s and Cobra helicopters, making them unpurchasable for Pakistan. He also said that the matters of coalition support fund and the old F-16’s were raised in the strategic dialogue. Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar told the journalists that Pakistan has not yet received $2 billion for the coalition support fund and no way has yet been carved out to resolve the issue.

Plus what do you guys say to the fact that the F-16s we recently received were actually downgraded so they couldn't be used internationally only against the Taliban who we hope is a temporary threat. this is due to the fact that apart from the F-16I which i consider a different breed.
PAF F-16s are the most advanced Block 52's yet.. due to the improved Em systems. we asked for the high end.
the moroccans have asked for a similar deal.
the F-16s delivered to us back in the 80s were also high priced compared to others.. but that too since we asked for a specific fit..
ask any US tech who worked on those machines predelivery.. he will tell you those jets were bette in some respects to what was being delivered to the US.
(follwing..just in case)please dont compare prices of F-16s sold to Israel..
the US pays for half of what Israel buys or more.

i could be proven wrong..
if someone can show me the amount we paid per unit for the new jets and what the HAF paid(adjusted for inflation offcourse)..

I read this when the Jets were delivered to Pakistan a while back. It was a news agency report I forgot which one I think the radar may have been reduced it is also very possible that it was false.

There are no kill switches..!!!
there are startup codes for avionics and are burnt into the DTM.. just in case sm1 decided a repeat of mr mati-ur-rehmans act.
true these codes are generated by LM and delivered to us by the US military liason(acting on behalf for the govt) every day.
but the older birds also came with similar codes back in the 80 and an identical procedure was followed for a year or so till we made our own workaround for them

errrr......dear sir the "old F-16" came free...the upgrades were paid for and the transfer costs. so please relax and dont trust every word of these numb skulls who call them selves the leaders and think tanks of our nation (but are infact nothing more than just gossiping little fifth grade girls).
and as far as the "kill switch" issue is concerned its been dealt with and debunked by many of our senior, very knowledgeable members. please refer to the " Pakistan F-16 Discussions 2 " thread for their responses.

Is it possible to bypass such a procedure? If yes, how?

You paid for the F-16's.. from the AID package.

reverse engineering requires a manufacturing base.. something our leadership seems to ignore..preferring investments in bullet proof cars.

No country would buy US equipment if they had kill switches in them.

Their defense industry would collapse.


In the Kargil war, F-16s routinely saw CAPs. Did any of those F-16s fail to start up?

Well Kill switch is overkill

An airplane's best weapon its the unknown classified , performance data

a) How fast can a plane actually go
b) How fast can it launch a weapon
c) How much pay load it can carry

In Dog fights , how fast it can climb or rate of turn

Becasue we have purchased a plane from an out side nation , the specification of these planes is no secret , and routinely all the world airforces fight against a F16

So they already know what it feels like to go against a F16 so their is no major advantage.

Now comes the part of the kill switch , its common sense that there are mechanism that prevent accidental targeting of allied planes

There are sensors in planes that prevent planes form targeting friendly nation's planes.

US and Pakistan are traditional Allies so obviously there are measures to prevent accidental engagement

As for the higher rate , well we should have just taken hard cash instead of planes - and then purchased our own planes

F16 deal is not bad we got upgrading and also new batch of F16 , so little plus minus cost is negligible

In any case we are developing JF17 thunder it gives us much need option as well

But can't undermine the F16 its a good plane

i think we should cancel the further f-16 deal and buy the current j-10A about 30 and wait for the j-10B..and then after 2015 we upgrade the old j-10A to j-10B standard..

J-10 and f-16 are almost the same..

and i think j-10 is more advance then f-16
