WASHINGTON

A group of senators introduced legislation Thursday to prohibit the transfer of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, citing concerns about Ankara's plans to purchase the Russian S-400 missile defense system.

“Turkey is an important NATO ally and willing partner in addressing a number of US national security priorities,” said Senator James Lankford in a press release.

Lankford, however, shared concerns about Turkey's plan to obtaining the S-400 system, saying that Russia “seeks to undermine NATO and US interests at every turn.”

“The prospect of Russia having access to U.S. aircraft and technology in a NATO country, Turkey, is a serious national and global security risk,” said Senator Jeanne Shaheen.

Following protracted efforts to purchase air defense systems from the U.S. with no success, Ankara decided in 2017 to purchase Russia’s S-400 air defense system.

Ankara is also planning to purchase 100 F-35 fighter jets from the U.S. and its pilots are currently training on the weapons platform at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona.

Turkey first joined the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Program in 2002 and has invested more than $1.25 billion. It also manufactures various aircraft parts for all F-35 variants and customers.

Turkish firms supply the F-35 program with key components, including airframe structures and assemblies and the center fuselages.

The bill defines the "transfer" of the F-35s as being relocated outside the continental U.S. and does not apply to fighter jets being operated by American forces.

Two F-35s have already been delivered to Turkey, and are currently at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona, where Turkish pilots are training with the aircraft. These jets were scheduled to be transferred in November. Two more jets are expected to be delivered soon.

Washington has cautioned the S-400 system might covertly obtain critical information on the advanced fighter jets, including their detection range, which could then be relayed to Russia.

“This bill makes it clear that NATO’s integrity, interoperability, and security is a top foreign policy concern across all branches of the U.S. government,” the senators said.

Senators James Lankford, Jeanne Shaheen, Thom Tillis, and Chris Van Hollen are part of the legislation.

Look at the senators involved and i bet the are all AIPAC boot lickers

.
What is the price of Russian or Chinese Jets??

There are other alternatives for Turkey.

S-400 deal done, joint S-500 production on agenda

and TRUMP is not stupid to lose $40+ billion from Turkey

-- 98 Boeing 737 Max $10 billion ( 2018-2022 )
-- 40 Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner $11 billion ( 2018-2023 )
-- 100 F-35A $10 billion ( 2019-2030 )

also 32 F-35B for Turkish Navy ( $4,8 bil ) and possible PATRIOT Air Defense System ($3,5 bil ) and 8 Boeing 747-8İ Super Jumbo Jet $3 billion

Doesn't Turkey have TF-X?

Turkey has its own TAI TFX 5th gen Fighter Jet project to replace 200 F-16C/D after 2030

Turkey is a global partner of F35 program and Turkey buys 100 F-35A to replace F4 fleet and 35 F-16 block30 between 2020 and 2030

. . .
Invest that money into our own fighter and drones

40 Chinese jets could be an option specially if they get them secretly without knowing of the public

well , they are talking about F35 not airliners .... honestly , I feel they don't want to repeat Iran and F14 story with Turkey and F35 ....

so even if they sell F35 to Turkey , they will fill it with back door and kill functions and some serious problem to deter Turks ability to operate them without USA help ....

Turks don't have good relationship with Chinese due their recent stands ; and Russia won't sell any modern offensive weapon to country like Iran or Turkey due the geographical and historical and political issues ... well , Egypt can't threat Russia interest but both Iran and Turkey can ....

I predict in near future , Turks will accept USA terms and look like nothing happened ...

.
We should announce we don't need 100 we just want 50 . Really do we need 100?

Just begin talks with airbus for other airliners let's see if that has an impact to change their mind

but I also think if are out of F-35 us would look for other customers to compensate the lost I am sure UAE and KSA could than get F-35

Turks don't have good relationship with Chinese

Chinese are smart I bet they would sell it because it would create a dependence and could lead for more business also this would be a huge impact on west and NATO.. Also I think this is the reason why it will not happen its really too much if a story

We are talking about cancel 138 Boeing deal for $21 billion
Turkey can cancel 138 Boeing deal and to buy from Airbus ( btw Boeing 737 Max is shit and Turkey ordered 98 Boeing 737 Max $10 billion between 2018-2022 )

also possible PATRIOT Air Defense System ($3,5 bil ) and 8 Boeing 747-8İ Super Jumbo Jet $3 billion

and Turks are not stupid to give $10 billion for American control useless F35s , We never forget about Iran's F-14 story

so Turkey replace treacherous the US with Russia

S400 , S500 even maybe SU-34 ,SU-35 , SU-57 with Turkish systems
Turkey has money , and Russia is so happy and ready for cooperation with Turkey

even Russia build the first Nuclear Power Plant in Turkey for $22 billion

stupid Americans will cry to lose Turkey ,,,, but it will be so late

The point is that if USA don't allow her company to sell any good things to Turkey and get the profit , then they wont let European company to take their place ....

if Turkey cancel the deal of buying Boeing airliner due the political issues , then USA simply force Airbus or other companies to not sell airliner to Turkey because as far as I know , most of airbus use more than 5 percent of American parts in them ....

Chinese air craft are not tested and I doubt they sell J-31 or J-20 to countries like Turkey which is in NATO league ....
