Their federation broke up and now covert means suits them best.

USA has been the sole superpower for about 30 years now. It has been free to set the global agenda, unopposed for that period. To give you an idea about the current US naval might, if the entire globe United and decided to take the fight to US mainlands they would be unable to do so, USN is capable enough to stop such a coalition from approaching it's shores. That's only taking into account their military, you include US diplomacy and their economic policies, the ratio skews further.

Sadly, when one is used to being unopposed and has the means to keep it that way, might will remain the deciding factor.

Last week, the Iranian-flagged oil tanker Samah entered the Mediterranean Sea via the Suez Canal. After a few miles, the 900-foot-long ship stopped reporting its position and destination. Evidence suggests the ship sailed to Syria, escorted by two Russian Navy ships, including a destroyer.

Russia’s role in protecting the shipment may change the dynamics in the Eastern Mediterranean. In the past, Iranian tankers sailing to Syria have been intercepted by the U.K. Royal Navy. The Russian Navy escort could be viewed as a precautionary step, raising the political and military risks of any intervention by the Royal Navy or others.

You've made all valid points and all are true to some extent. USA, China, Russia and Europe hold enough nuclear armaments to inflict catastrophic damages upon each other, but that's about it. Currently, none possesses the capability to land troops on the others territory in sufficient numbers for an invasion bar the USA. That gives it an immense edge.

What you've pointed out is typically a last ditch scenario or something to be used defensively and in the nuclear sense levels the playing field. However if the goal is to enforce one's own objectives on any part of the globe the US has no competitor. If the US crossed red lines of other nuclear states it will recieve an opposing reaction, but militarily responding to a provacation where your forces cannot reach or be logistically provided for becomes a colossal barrier for any response, so this limits said response to typically adjacent geographical regions or operating spheres of far off supply bases.

The US holds immense advantage in this area. It beats the world in the no. Of offshore military facilities, that means, it alone has more bases around the world than rest of the countries combined. It's strength is in logistics, technological superiority is the icing. At any moment, cargo ships containing enough armaments for a sustained invasion for roughly one month for a limited no of troops are placed strategically around the globe. This is done to insure that there exists minimum time gap between the order for an attack and its execution on any country that the US deems as enemy. So long as no power can compete on those two fields the US will continue to dominate.

well in a way he believes he is the sheriff and in a way its true too. When u have been the solo SP for 30+ years, u tend to act tat way. But as of last couple of years this SP is fearing the arrival of a new challenger, who plans to take him head on, in all aspects... but tats like another 5-10 years give or take, till the new challenger can takeover without a fight unless this is not addressed.
So till than live with it... and later depending on the outcome u may or may not enjoy living on the top and being the privileged lot.

On a side note, alot will happen in these 5-10 years time span, for the current SP wont let go of the the throne easily... but lets wait and see. Till than most small players will have to live with the shit the current SP imposes either directly or via the system.... you have but no choice.... but to grow or join blocks.
