Versions of antiviral remdesivir were arriving in the US by plane, reports the Wall Street Journal
Federal authorities have seized at US airports unauthorized versions of the Covid-19 treatment remdesivir destined for distribution in Mexico, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

Versions of antiviral remdesivir, without licenses from the drug's manufacturer Gilead Sciences Inc, were arriving in the United States by plane from Bangladesh and India, the newspaper said.
They were being smuggled by individuals to Mexico for patients willing to pay top dollar for the drugs, the report added, citing people familiar with the investigation.

"We caution against sourcing Gilead medicine from outside the approved and regulated supply chain, hospitals or pharmacies and will continue to support US law enforcement in taking appropriate actions to protect patients," Gilead said in an email to Reuters.

In recent months, US Customs and Border Protection officers have captured more than 100 shipments that they referred to US Department of Homeland Security special agents for further investigation, according to the report.

Who gives a ****... BD can produce remdesivir legally and will soon be selling it globally.

Pharma cartels is sucking US consumers dry.... their country their rule i guess.

Yeah I had some Bangladeshi pharma medications (anti-inflammation drugs) tested by a govt. lab in the US - came through with flying colors as far as active ingredient content.

The same drugs meant for a relative coming through the US HMO's cost ten times as much.

Biden should fight the pharma industry and lower drug prices, no one in the US has the balls to do it...

Bangladesh has another five years of drug production left without paying licensing fees. Not only Remdesivir, but all manners of drugs. Unfortunately, Pharmas in Bangladesh are S L O W to step up to the challenge.

95% of Washington is sold out to big corporations including pharma thanks to Citizens United and Buckley v Valeo.

American people need to wake up and take it to the streets until you have Medicare for All.
Bernie Sanders and Justice Democrats are currently fighting a losing battle.
The latest compromise is to extend Medicare to 60 years of age through budget reconciliation. What a bloody joke. This is the only developed country were thousands die and hundreds of thousands go bankrupt each year due to lack of health cover.

On a positive note, BD drugs make their mark! :)
