US satisfied with Pak's nuclear security: Gates

AFP 8 September 2009,

WASHINGTON: The United States is satisfied with the security of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal, US Defense Secretary Robert Gates said in an interview
aired on Monday, calling the arrangements in place "sufficient and adequate."

"I'm quite comfortable that the security arrangements for the Pakistani nuclear capabilities are sufficient and adequate," Gates said in an interview with Al Jazeera, the Qatar-based satellite news channel, according to a transcript.

He said that assessment was "based both on our own understanding of the security arrangements that the Pakistanis have for their weapons and their capabilities, their laboratories and so on. But also the insurances we have been given by the Pakistanis."

Gates also praised the performance of both Pakistan's military and civilian government over the past 16 months, saying it had exceeded Washington's expectations.

He said a political consensus had formed on the need to take on extremists in the Swat valley and the tribal areas, and that the government had been effective in its handling of refugees in the aftermath of the military operations against the Pakistani Taliban.

"We are very impressed by that and we are prepared to be helpful, to help the Pakistanis in any way we can," he said.

Asked about reports that the Pakistani intelligence supported Taliban groups in their war against US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, Gates acknowledged that those relationships go back to the campaign against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980s.

However now "I believe we are in the same trench, working for the same goal," he said.

chalo g, at least we wont listen to old song of "Do More" & "Pakistani Nukes a Danger to world security"....

Its Good that they are accepting the reality & propaganda has stopped to some extent :usflag::pakistan:
over all appreciated statement by Mr. Gates

. . .
It's good because now we can tell the Western and Indian media to shut up.

All fine and dandy until this

Strengthens the notion of the pariah state and gives more substance to claims (though i do not believe in it) of a sold out military doing actions at the behest of the US...

all this because Zardari will sell most of the land to AMERICANZ!!!!

Technically he is selling land to the Saudis and other Arabs - referring to the proposal for leasing out almost a million acres for commercial farming to these nations.

Is this land currently cultivated and used by Pakistan or are the saudis going to invest in unused land and its cultivation...?

The statements from government officials have indicated it is unused land, possibly even barren, that the Arabs would help change to cultivable land and then farm for their own needs.

However, government officials can hardly be expected to say anything else, so we shall have to wait and see as these negotiations advance and proposals finalize, as to what kind of land it actually will be.

Do we really need gates approval over the security of our nuclear weapons. US administration knew all along that Pakistani nukes are as safe as any nuclear weapons of any other country, its only those Indian/jewish sponsored media/people that are specifically payed to create constant fear about Pakistani nuclear weapons falling into the wrong hands, so that to create a public anger and force the US administration to mount pressure or as suggested make an attempt to capture/seize Pakistani nuclear weapons in the name of securing them.

Now dont put too much faith in Gates remarks, you might be hearing something different even before one would have expected.

My guys? Had it been me, there wouldn't be an Iraq war.
Had it been me, I would strategically scale back and devoid the world of a `leadership' and deliver a total leadership vacuum. By the time they couldn't get their doh carved right and square, I will re-engage and work with anyone who is willing to work with Sam. :cheesy:
