The United States is speeding up production of its long-range B-21 Raider stealth bomber to take on challenges from China as the two countries tussle over the South China Sea and Taiwan.

US Air Force secretary Frank Kendall told a conference in Maryland on Monday that the US had five of the bombers in production, up from the previously reported two.

America has never fought in a war that has directly threatened US main land. The cold war is as close it got.

If push comes to shove, I think America will let China take Taiwan without direct military confrontation. I doubt that average Americans will find Taiwan worth the risk of a ballistic missile flying over New York!

Don’t think China wants to lose cities over Taiwan. China may have a bigger population but it’s easier to kill them because it’s more dense. So for example nuking Shanghai could lead to 25 million dead alone. 200 cites nuked around 10 million per city.

I doubt that average Americans can find Taiwan on the map.

I doubt USA would want to confront China, the era of cold war is over, both the economies depend on each other. Neither of the countries can afford to go to war with each other.

You'd be surprised what Anglo-Saxons are capable of the maintain their hegemony. Everything they accuse China of doing, they've done it in the past. It's like a psychological projection.

To preserve peace, you must be ready for war.

Neither America nor China will rush to use a nuclear weapon.

China has the tangible reward of assimilating Taiwan. This is real motivation that is worth paying the cost of war. What real motivation could America use to justify fighting over Taiwan? I don't see that as something American politicians can sell to their public.

Only way I can see America having a military confrontation with China is if China attempts something like the Pearl Harbor attack.

Usually wars tend to inform them.

Considering how the U.S. has been involved in past wars like Vietnam, Gulf War 1 and 2, Korean War, Afghan War, etc. I wouldn't bet against that. Not to mention if China wants to take Taiwan without U.S. interfering, they will have to do a Pearl Harbor attack. Why would Japan do something like that if people think Americans won't get involved prior to WW2?

The wars that you've cited have all been expeditionary with no real possibility of the threat reaching mainland. A war with China will not fall in that category.

Japan attacked US in WW2 because US blocked oil to Japan. Without oil, Japan could not continue its war. So out of desperation (and ample narcissistic stupidity), the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. I don't see the obvious need for China to attack US naval base in order to approach Taiwan.

If US decides to put a naval base on Taiwan, then we can consider the possibility of war between the two giants.

LOL! U.S. will get involved in a war with China even if it has nukes because we also have nukes that can wipe China off the map which means China will have to resort to conventional warfare.

Do you know why japan really attacked Pearl Harbor? Its not because of the oil embargo. Why would you attack the U.S. over that? I'm sure China sees the need to attack Pearl Harbor or Guam or Australia.

China freaked out over a few thousand U.S. Marines in Australia, I'm sure China would go to war over that as well.

I meant conventional weapons only. China can strike US mainland with conventional weapons. This was not possible for the opponents in any other war.

The oil embargo is the well accepted trigger event.

The last time we had a major war on U.S. mainland was the British in 1812 war. But thats not enough to deter the U.S. from getting involved in a future war with China. Not with everything at stake in Asia and the Pacific. You see it don't you? China is preparing and the U.S. as well with new ships and weapons.

Why Pearl Harbor? It has no oil.

but Chinese themselves have admitted Genocide on the Ughurs

first they said no such buildings exist then they admitted its "reeducation" and now they are saying yes we are killing them

so who trusts Authoritarian regimes ? no one

so China either must allow North West China to become a independent country and respect the wishes of the Ughurs or face the consequences

same goes for HK and Tibet

Taiwan you can forget China will never get it, not in the next 100 years anyway
