US opposes extra-constitutional change in Pakistan

The United States has said it opposes any efforts to impose extra-constitutional change to the democratic system in Pakistan.



In a briefing, Marie Harf, Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department said that Nawaz Sharif is the elected Prime Minister of Pakistan and the US opposes any efforts to impose extra-constitutional change to the democratic system.



She said US is carefully monitoring the demonstrations in Islamabad and it encourages all the parties to work together to resolve their differences through dialogue.



Marie Harf further said US Ambassador to Pakistan remains in touch with Pakistani officials.

Seems to me that US has lost its hold on Pakistan..they aren't capable as earlier to influence affairs.

The US still holds considerable influence, but only when it comes to military affairs, even then the PA no longer has any faith in the US.

The day the US got Pakistan involved in their war on terror, is the day the US started to lose it's influence in Pakistan; hell, even the sanctions didn't have this sort of an impact.

I figure the influence started to recede after 2011, when the US started talking about divorcing pakistan.

The withdrawal from Afg, the realignment to the Asia pivot etc also saw waning interest in the region.

The only thread thats worth a few pennies is the US's desire to drawout of Afg with some semblence of pride....other than that, the Afg Pak region will have minimal eyeballs just to keep an eye on the jihadi elements.

Pakistan too, on its part is re-aligning itself towards SCO.
