US not pushing Pakistan to sign NPT

The United States has said that it wants countries like Pakistan to help prevent further proliferation of nuclear weapons even if they are not willing to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Robert J. Einhorn, special adviser on non-proliferation and arms control to the US Department of State, also said that Washington wanted India, Pakistan and China to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, once it was approved by the US Senate.

At a briefing in Washington on the new US nuclear policy, Mr Einhorn said the US realised that India might never sign the NPT and accepted the Indian position.

Asked why India, Pakistan and Israel were exempted from the NPT, the official said: “We call on all countries, whether they have chosen to join the NPT or not, to work together to limit, to prevent, the threat of further nuclear proliferation. Whether you’re an NPT party or not, there’s a common interest in ensuring that this regime does not unravel.”

He warned that the non-proliferation regime was under considerable threat these days, especially because of the non-compliance of North Korea and Iran. The answer indicates a new understanding in Washington that countries like India, Pakistan and Israel cannot be forced to give up their nuclear programmes and that’s why the international community needs to find a way to work with them.

While the US has not yet spelled out a clear position on Pakistan’s nuclear programme, it already had taken a giant step towards establishing India as a nuclear power by signing a nuclear energy deal with New Delhi.

When we will get Nuclear civilian technology we will sign NPT ... provided we have 400 Nuclear war heads and right to maintain that number - for our defences

We don't even need India to sign it also we would rather be part of the International Community

one of the goals of NPT is disarmament. having 400 nukes and obliging with NPT is not possible.

US is not asking Pakistan to sign NPT because it knows Pak would never do that.

Yes Ms. Clinton has recently expressed how destabilizing our nuclear weapons have been and now the Iranian Nuclear weapons are going to change the balance of power and strategy to an unprecedented levels. Morons will do their best to hold Iran from getting nuclear state.

NPT is not giving nuclear weapons to no nuclear nations but we are already nuclear nation so when we sign the NPT we are joing international communnity and we need the energy to help move needs of our nation

Well I think if one looks at the dangers ou nuclear radiations its better to get civilian nuclear technology vs Nuclear arms , we have 400 nuclear war heads and that is enough for any nation , technically speaking just 20 are enough for our defence needs

It would be great help if we can work with International community to generate enegy needs for man kind vs weaponization alone etc

I think anyone who wants proof of dangers of radiation should read on chrynoble desaster .. some areas are radiated for 20,000 years!!

I think from a strategic prespective we should take lead and sign and tilt the international community on our side

The benefits we would gain from such deal would out weigh the negative effects

a) Support on civil nuclear programs
b) Engineering support on establishing civilian projects
c) Advancement in using electricity from the nuclear programs
for civilian use.

And pretty much removal of arms embargoes on various technologies we have at present which is crippling our national development

Our goal is simple - economy should be priority and security in cities and borders

The electricty could also be used to feul mega projects desalination for water etc
which is the BIGGEST problem for our country

From our stand point we don't care if india signs or not ... its irrelevant we have the nucs we need for protecting Pakistan for 100-200 years, so why not just sign it and yeild benefits of civil programs
