WASHINGTON: The United States has succeeded in defanging a toxic Pakistan by neutralising its entire nuclear arsenal - on television.

In yet another American TV series that will expectedly drive Islamabad ballistic, Pakistan is portrayed as a dangerous, unstable, failed country, with the United States having to keep a constant watch on its nuclear arsenal as the country spirals into an abyss - not very different from what many analysts discuss in real life.

But in keeping with the general belief that Washington has contingency plans to take over or neutralise its nuclear weapons, the TV drama 'Madam Secretary' - whose fans include Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton - pushes the envelop further in a recent episode titled 'Render Safe.'

Naturally, the plot is not without drama and complications. The US plan is to send commandos to a dozen bunkers in the north where the bombs are stored, while Russia takes care of five in southern Pakistan. Right as they put the plan in motion, the Russians bail out, telling the Americans they are backing the foreign minister who wants to take over the country.

Left to deal with the situation themselves, the Americans manage to neutralise most of the arsenal but a few bombs have been spirited away by a terrorist group Hizb al-Shahid. But the terrorists don't have access codes to the bombs and they have to be rewired by a rogue scientist - naturally, a Russian renegade. Of course, the Chinese are also in the mix - resentful of the US attacking Pakistan but also offering to "help."

The TV drama is the latest amid a raft of western entertainment that shows up Pakistan as a terrorist-infested country with extremists having a free run amid an inept and divided civilian leadership and military.

The portrayal infuriates Pakistan, which believes it is unfair and denigrates the country, although the reality is that many terrorist attacks against western interests - from London to New York to California - have Pakistani origins or connections.

After Pakistan was shown as a terrorist hellhole in the hit TV series 'Homeland' in its fourth season in 2014, a Pakistani official, hinting at blowback it not payback, moaned that "Maligning a country that has been a close partner and ally of the US... is a disservice not only to the security interests of the US but also to the people of the US."

Since then, ties between the two countries have unraveled further with unnamed US officials recently suggesting that the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI poisoned the CIA's Islamabad chief to retaliate among other things for the Abbbottabad raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

The entertainment world has taken much of the material from real world incidents or playbook. For instance, the "Render Safe" programme to neutralise Pakistan's nuclear arsenal is said to be taken from Washington's actual contingency plans under the same title.

A Homeland episode where Pakistani terrorists seize the US Embassy in Islamabad traces its origins to 1979 when the US Embassy was indeed overrun by extremists.

There are so many things wrong with the show, but I won't bother, I for one, won't give a damn.
I know it's not polite to shoot the messenger, but hey Chidanand Rajghatta.
And I thought many Indian posters didn't really care about TOI news, but I guess it's a Holy Grail for the lot of you.

What world failed to realize is most Dangerous Country on Earth is India....where minority rights are violated so badly that in near future it might be a new KHALISTAN for Sikhs even few days back they show off in London during protests, A Mini Pakistan (By India Muslims) how they are treated and isolated and Christians for their rights......
And how India is boosting its Nuclear Arsenals so rapidly the world is blind to see that....it will pass in next decade to many other nuclear countries.......
And how many times her some of the most top ranked officers on very sensitive posts are found traitors who were working for other countries....if they can work for other countries they can also work for terrorists for money.....and last not the least recent events also showed that Indian weapons are used by ISIS in Syria, Indian are supplying them weapons...

@MastanKhan

Sir the other day (in one of your F-16 vs nukes threads) when I suggested to step up on portable nuke program .............. this is one of the reason, they have done the ground work themselves, spreading the fear of nukes in public has already been initiated courtesy hollywood. I would like to add that movies do sometime reflect the collective fears of a society and nothing would worry them more than Pakistan threatening to go for huge number of portable nukes.

Actually Pakistan is now getting out of America's clutches and trying to become independent. This infuriates the Establishment of USA, which now tries to implicate Pakistan of loosing it's control on nuclear Arsenal. One wonder's all the episode of nuclear espionage have happened to USA and Russia then why we are being accused.

Hi,

Hollywood sometimes in its insults does us favors----. It knows that there is a plan to strike at the storage facilities---and it knows that there are a certain number of facilities---because the U S know where all our equipment is---.

So---that is why I had suggested that pak needs to build up more equipment---and as they do so---they need to build up more site---if the number of sites increase from 13 to 35---then the chance of failure is very high---for a strike operation.

Right now with 13 sites---30 specialists attacking each site---is roughly going to need 450 specialists----and that is manageable.

But if you have 30-35 sites---then as the number of sites increase---the rate of failure gets higher.

Pakistanis are only living an illusion thinking their nucs are safe---.

Your DP sums up your condition very well
Yes it's an entity made of Fire and to consume it's enemies in the blink of an eye, unlike your dp which needs Fair & lovely to look good and still looks like......:tdown:Safe to assume this is your personal story?. Now pay attention to my signature as well and move along, you are simply not worth my time .

Hi,

If I may answer some of it-----

My baby sitter was a christian---I went to catholic schools for a couple years---my sisters all studied in catholic schools---I had christian and hindu friends when I was in pakistan over 30 years ago---.

I called the catholic nuns and priests by their denominations like sister, mother, brother, father---and people still do.

I have christian neighbors who celebrate their family weddings in our lawn all the time. Another christian neighbor is also very good friends with my mother. My mother meets her in the U S as well---and when she is in pakistan---they see each other.

We come from a WAHABI family---my near and dear friends are shias.

We have a christian maid in our house that does the cleaning---if need be---she does the cooking as well---makes chappatis---cooks chicken, meat, vegetable, lentils---whatever is needed.

We used to have a ' low caste ' hindu sweeper Diya Chand in our house one time---I used to shake his hand and put my arm around his shoulders---and so would my father---and he would try to shirk away because he came from a group of untouchables---and he would say the same that he is untouchable---but not for us---

We are no different than any other society--where some elements of the society have become radicalized---it is happening in the u S as well---.

Your society is no different. It is like the pot calling the kettle black.

Dude I don't have enemies, so don't have to burn 24/7 to destroy my enemies. You are cursed :D

I don't need fairness to look good. It's low IQ people like you who think beauty lies in fairness. Btw that's not me but my favorite actor Nawazuddin siddiqi. And yes he too don't need fair and lovely :enjoy:
Budd you are underestimating me :smokin:

Mastan sahab that was not for you educated folks.
Btw that's not even a thing here.
We are so intertwined that, we (Indians Hindu, Muslims, Sikhs, Christian, jain, Paris,....) can't live without each other.
It's part of our daily lives. So still no biggie

PS please don't compare Pakistani society to ours, thanks

BTW, who is US? what leverage it has got on us? NOTHING....ZERO.

All Pakistan needs to do, in my opinion, increase the nukes and openly criticize this series and should do everything to stop the release of this serial.

We shouldn't take these kind of things lightly. What if they are preparing ground/making the mind of people for future attack on Pak nuke sites.

US will only attack Pak nuke sites if it has decided to fuk world's security.

Acting like morons is not reserved for Americans only.

So far, we need to increase our economic stability and should pursue our interests boldly.

We should have understand that being a only Muslim nuclear power in world will automatically bring us in spot light.

I say, if US even dares to fly near Pak nukes, or try to do, Pakistan should immediately sell nuke tech to Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Each and every Muslim country should be a nuclear power.

You don't play hardball with Pakistan. We can be more moronic sometimes than you. It will be fun.
