US Navy seizes Iranian weapons bound for Yemen

The US Navy said it seized a large cache of assault rifles and ammunition smuggled from an Iranian fishing vessel likely bound for Yemen, the Associated Press reported Thursday.

US Navy patrol vessels discovered the weapons aboard a stateless fishing vessel in an operation that began Monday in the northern Arabian Sea off Oman and Pakistan.


The Marines found 1,400 Kalashnikov-type rifles and 226,600 rounds, as well as five Yemeni crew members.
Western countries and UN experts have repeatedly accused Iran of smuggling illicit weapons and technology into Yemen over the years, fueling the civil war and allowing the Houthis to fire missiles and drones over neighboring Saudi Arabia.
Iran, however, denies having armed the Houthis.

"The direct or indirect supply, sale or transfer of weapons to the Houthis violates UN Security Council resolutions and US sanctions," the US Navy said in a statement.

The Iranian mission to the United Nations did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the interception of the weapons.

According to one report Houthis have seized enough weapons from Saudi military and Saudi proxies in Yemen that can fully arm two divisions (20,000) men...no need for Iran shipping old AKs to them.

This is a US navy's dog and pony show that they engage on from time to time to say that we are here...arms are probably what US collected from their Anti- US head choppers in Iraq and Syria..

Well Hamas has used More crude weapons, and many locally made, to basically dismantle the extra weak and cowardly IDF earlier this year, so do you really think 1 Iranian boat with locally made cheap weapons, will make much difference for a force as large, battle-hardened, resilient, skilled like the Houthis??? c'mon now, Houthis have advanced drones already..this is provbably offgrid local arms deals, besides, even US Navy said they estimate they intercept about 40% of the arms shipped into Yemen, so what about the other 60% that slipped through? I guess the fall of marib proved that was the result. enjoy.
