MANAMA, Bahrain — The top U.S. Navy official in the Persian Gulf said Sunday he takes Iran’s military capabilities seriously and insisted his forces are prepared to confront any Iranian aggression in the region.

5th Fleet commander Vice Adm. Mark Fox, also head of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, told reporters at 5th Fleet headquarters that the Navy has “built a wide range of potential options to give the president” and is “ready today” to confront any hostile action by Tehran.

Fox said Iran’s military is “capable of striking a blow” against American forces in the Gulf, but that his ships have a right to defend themselves if attacked.

His comments follow Iranian threats to close the Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Gulf if Iran’s oil exports are blocked.

Well considering Iran terrain and size it could take several nuclear strikes including attacks this gives Iran an advantage over countries like Saudi Arabia or the UAE.

I remember once I explained to you almost completely that the level Iran is enriching uranium right now has nothing to do with nuclear weapons, it's something pretty normal and common for nuclear reactors that produce isotopes for therapy.

Its hypocracy to suggest Isreal, USA, Russia, India, Pakistan and others can have nukes but not Iranians. Who the feck are these people to decide who has nukes or not? If you want a nuclear free world then start with yourself but ofcourse we all know that USA is responsible democratic civilized country so they get to have nuclear weapons so save the world from communism, islamism and what not. Its not about right and wrong at this point. Its about power and suppression.

countries have had nukes for decades and nothing happened to iran... n the only reason why iran is in spotlight is because it is trying to get nuclear weapons... if you didnt.. all would be well.. if all u wanted was power to supply to ur cities.. that would be fine.. but u have to try go extra length...

another thing u should realise... if u get the bomb.. you will get bombed.. is it really worth it?

arian....what you talking bout?? iran is trying to enrich uranium well above what is needed for power supply.. that is fairly simple.. why enrich it more then u need to unless your after something else other then power?
