Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Wednesday gave the U.S. an ultimatum following Ankara's repeated requests for the extradition of Pennsylvania-based fugitive preacher Fetullah Gülen, who orchestrated the July 15 defeated coup via his terror-cult network.

Addressing a mass crowd in front of the Beştepe Presidential Complex in Ankara, Erdoğan said: "Sooner or later the U.S will make a choice. Either Turkey or Feto," he said, using a nickname of the cult terrorist leader who mounted the bloody coup attempt through his criminal network's rogue elements within the military.

"Either coup-plotting terrorist Feto or democratic country Turkey. It has to make this choice," the president added.

The fugitive preacher has led a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary, forming what is commonly known as the "parallel state".

Turkey's government said the foiled putsch, which left 240 people killed and nearly 2,200 injured, was organized by followers of Gülen, who has lived in a self-imposed exile Pennsylvania since 1999.

Erdoğan also announced the end to weeks of "democracy watch" rallies across Turkey. The daily gatherings, which have attracted hundreds of thousands wishing to show their opposition to the foiled July 15 coup, culminated Sunday in an Istanbul rally that 5 million people are thought have attended, according to local officials.

The Turkish president warned citizens however to stay vigilant constantly as "betrayal can come from anywhere and anyone".

"We want to finalize it here [Ankara]. But, I see that our people do not want to leave the squares," Erdoğan said.

"Democracy watch cannot be only kept in certain hours, in certain places," he added.

Before Erdoğan's speech, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım took the stage and told the crowd: "You are the hero of democracy."

Yıldırım added: "Coup plotters believed that they would defeat the nation, but they were mistaken." He added the Gülenist terror-cult will be held accountable before the public.

"We will certainly call the murderers to account [for their crimes]. We will impose the heaviest penalty," he added.

On the night of attempt, President Erdoğan called on Turkish citizens to hit the streets in opposition to the coup, a call that has met an overwhelming response from thousands who poured out to defy tanks and bullets in major cities and millions who took part in anti-coup demonstrations across the country.

President also said that Turkey handed over 85 boxes of files containing proofs against Gulen' as per CNN. Furthermore, on a legal point and treaty between 2 countries, CNN quoted as

President Obama has said that the cleric would only be extradited as a result of "a legal process," and if the extradition request is found to be justified according to the relevant laws and treaties.

CNN legal analyst Danny Cevallos says that extradition from the US is generally only granted pursuant to a treaty -- one of which exists between the US and Turkey.
But extradition requests are complex matters, typically complicated by "unique and knotty treaties, multilayer exceptions to rules and nebulous definitions of extraditable crimes," he wrote.
"The result is that every extradition request becomes a case-by-case analysis, guided by the moment's prevailing international political winds."

Interesting piece within the news/article that I found while reading about topic in hand, at RT as follows:

In response to these measures, Western politicians have warned Erdogan his attempts to make Turkey an EU member are doomed if the purges don’t stop.

No country can become an EU member state if it introduces the death penalty,” EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini said. While EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker recently told broadcaster France 2 that he believes “Turkey, in its current state, is not in a position to become [an EU] member any time soon and not even over a longer period.

Turkey responded angrily to these remarks, with Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu lashing out at the EU for its reaction to the failed coup, while adding that if the West “loses” Turkey, it will be due to its own mistakes, not due to the fact that Ankara was seeking allies elsewhere, such as Russia or China.

So while looking at CNN mentioning, seems like US will most probably try to tangle the process of handing over the Gulen' with legal obligations but as per the norms of International Politics, nothing above the national interests.

On other hand, as RT quoted, appears like Russia has triggered the pressure shot to US & EU while suggesting a totally anti-NATO new Alliance of Turkey which will ultimately favour the Turkey in-case of a Hit or a Misfire.

Here we need to remember about Turkey-Russian pre & post coup relations that are getting better. So also, to the some sources, it is rumored that Russia has played a major role to counter the coup by sharing Intelligence based reports with President Erdogan. Furthermore, in such case of new Alliance, IMO, Turkey would be more than welcome at Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) as already being a dialogue partner.

While reading about stance of President Erdogan, to me it reveals that, accountability and justice would be done once for all without any exemption and Turkey understands very well that what is better for the nation.

May the best happen to our Turkish Brethren. Ameen.

Aren't you the guys ridiculing others for subscribing conspiracy theories? You find it pretty convenient now, don't you?

Erdogan and the pro Erdogan PDF mooks are the one spinning the conspiracy crap. :usflag:

US is probably going to choose Gülen over Erdogan. Expecting major events in next 3 months.
Yeap, American's won't hand over one of their own.

They watch Fox tv and some other crap.

Conspiracy theory is what you and your likes have been claiming. That it was done by Erdogan is a theory of his foes based on conjecture. Go to a court and prove with evidence what you claim otherwise it's just another conspiracy theory.

If US give up Gulen, CIAs entire network for color revolution/regime change scheme in Central Asia will unravel. So US answer would be no answer. But US will keep trying regime change scheme again and again. Unless Turkey realign with regional powers, get into new security arrangement and leave NATO.

I don't think CIA will stop its terrorism in Turkey, matter of fact, the failure of the coup has most likely made this terror outfit more determined to oust or assassinate Erdogan. Erdogan must live rest of his life very carefully.

Really, I don't care if you rounded up ALL the turks in the U.S. No skin off of my @ss either way. But erdogan worked this 'coup' to run his purge. :enjoy:
This being a coup by Erdogan to do a personal purge is just as believable as saying that 9/11 is not an inside job.
murica won't give up its puppet Gulen, but in return it has lost the Turkish society and anti-muricanism & anti-EU, which was already high, will even increase among the pro-western segment. Now Turkey only needs to get stronger and more self-sufficient in the coming decades and then kick out NATO when the time is ripe:dance3:

Look, if Turkey has a decent intelligence service, they should send a hit team into the Pennsylvania mountains and be done with it. Quit whining, already.

Let's assume Turkey harbors Osama Bin Laden after 9/11 attack. US asks Turkey to hand over him. Turkey says "Send your evidence that are linking him with the attack, it could take several years until we hand him over to you." And some smartass would say "Quit whining, send CIA and be done with it."

This is the exact same situation.

I have written in my several posts, when Turkey was support ISIS on the Indication of western countries and shoot down Russian plan, that Turkey is going on the way of Pakistan and she will disgraced of her act.
Now look at the result.
