US has no right to make decision for Arabian people

By Zhong Sheng (People's Daily)15:29, February 28, 2012 Edited and translated by People's Daily Online

The situation in Syria has sharply deteriorated in the last few days. The conflicts between the Syrian government and opposition continue unabated, and the Friends of Syria meeting has recognized the opposition Syrian National Council as a legitimate representative of the Syrian people. External forces are busy supplying weapons and equipment to the opposition, increasing the possibility of an all-out civil war.

The United States, which has fully intervened in the Syrian crisis, has not seriously considered how to help the Syrian people put an early end to this disaster at minimal cost. In the name of helping Syrians achieve “freedom” and “democracy,” Washington is bitterly criticizing Beijing and Moscow for vetoing Western-drafted U.N. Security Council resolution.

At present, the Syrian people’s biggest desire is to immediately end all violent acts against innocent civilians, and quickly restore the country's stability and maintain normal social order. This is exactly the starting point for China’s policy on the Syrian crisis. China has taken a responsible attitude toward the interests of the Syrian people, and all its efforts to promote peace talks among various opposing parties are aimed at helping Syrians realize their desire for peace and stability.

China respects the history and culture of the Arabian people as well as their right to choose their own development path. China cares for the interests of the Arabian people, and values its long-established friendship with the Arab world. This friendship has withstood the test of time with solid basis. It is wishful thinking to wreck China-Arab friendship through deliberate provocations.

It is not difficult to imagine the original intention of the United States to act as the Arab people’s “patrons”. The problem is: where is the moral support for the nation’s lofty, super arrogance and self-confidence? Launching a war against Iraq without a justified reason makes the people in Arab countries unable to live a normal life for nearly one decade. What on earth has the strong intervention by the United States brought to the Arabian people's lives? Blessings or disasters? History will be the best judge.

Every country has the right to decide its own fate and no country can be the “Chosen People” behaving as the master of the other countries.

It is an irresistible trend that the world is developing into a multi-polarity one, and no one can change it.

The israeli lobby in the US will never allow the US to have a balanced foreign policy. In order to protect israel's interest, the US is compelled to interfere in Muslim states.
