US has no permission to launch drone strikes: PM Gilani

PERTH, (Australia), Oct 29 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Saturday categorically said there was no (no) permission to the United States to launch any drone strike against any target inside Pakistan’s territory. “There is no such permission,” Gilani told a large group of Pakistani expatriates. The prime minister is here on a four-day visit to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, that is being attended by over 50 world leaders. The Prime Minister said such attacks were counterproductive because of the collateral damages caused as these were undermining government’s efforts to get the unanimous support of the masses against the extremists and terrorists.

He said drone strikes were one of the reasons of tense relations between Pakistan and the United States of America.

“There has been a paradigm shift in the policy between a democratic government and a dictatorial regime,” he said and added that now the people of Pakistan and the Parliament were the ultimate arbitrators to take important decision of national importance.

“Unlike the policies of the past when things started rolling with a single telephone call from the United States of America, now we seek mandate of the Parliament and take decisions with consensus.”

Purely for public consumption and trying to avoid blame. Are people so gullible?

Nawaz on one side, Imran on the other. They both are fueling US vs Pak sentiments to put pressure on the government. When people listen to Imran Khan saying that those innocents hit by drones, that are to target militants, are turning into militants themselves, and people listen to him, then what more can you expect?

People get hit by drones meant to target militants, so they themselves turn into militants? Rather than turning on to militants themselves, people want revenge against those who are after the militants harming the same people?? Imran is making those people appear a bigger fool than himself - and they are rejoicing !!!

exactly,
he must have had got a giggle from the crowd, east or west the politicians just talk white lies in your face without flinching.

he is the one according to wikileaks saying to Americans that you guys continue targeting and we will continue to condemn it in the parliament.
That was for their face saving as they used to tease the Army and Musharraf for allowing the drone strikes. Back then those used to be once a month or two but now its almost everyday, not that Americans have free hellfires and they just like to blow up people .but in fact challenging the politicians to prove their election vows

wondering .. I am agree with @Irfan Baloch that politicians speak white lie. But up to what limit ..if lie is to save party or him self .. fine .. but when your lie harm your nation in terms of self confidence and self respect .. which have much bigger and worst impact in long term .. one should be punished to hell.

He telling people of Pakistan that we government is coward enough to tell you that we can't speak truth once it is open in front of world... our army is not able to stop some bunch of flying machines ..
It is up to people of Pakistan .. they took really strong sleeping pills ..... GOP is laughing stock around world ... for people of Pakistan their politicians are not enough Pakistanis and they don't care about them.. but out side borders of Pakistan .. people judge entire nation by their government ....

US doesn't have permission for drone strikes: Yuosuf Raza Gilani

PERTH: Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has categorically said no permission has been given to the US to launch drone strikes inside Pakistan's territory.

"There is no such permission," the Associated Press of Pakistan quoted Gilani as telling a group of Pakistani expatriates Saturday.

According to reports, at least 55-60 drone strikes have taken place in Pakistan in 2011. Over 460 people, most of them believed to be militants, have been killed in the strikes.

The prime minister is in Australia for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) that is being attended by over 50 world leaders.

Gilani said the drone strikes were counter-productive because of the collateral damage caused. They were undermining the Pakistani government's efforts to get unanimous support of the masses against terrorists.

He said the drone strikes were one of the reasons of tense relations between Pakistan and the US.

Pakistan has also conveyed to America that unilateral military operations, such as the one in May that led to the killing of al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden, would not be acceptable, he said.

"Unlike the policies of the past when things started rolling with a single telephone call from the US, now we seek mandate of the parliament and take decisions with consensus," he said.

Gilani said there has been a sea change in the country's foreign policy towards terrorism.

"There has been a paradigm shift in the policy between a democratic government and a dictatorial regime," he said, referring to the army rule of Pervez Musharraf.

The people of Pakistan and the parliament were now the "ultimate" arbitrators to take decisions of national importance, he said.
