One way or other, Pakistan is being pressurized with economic sanctions; directly or indirectly.

It's not that we have never been sanctioned before but what baffles me is the slave mindset of our elites specially in institutions that are supposed to be the defenders of the integrity of Pakistan. We have seen twice in a decade how easy our military elites bend to the will of their US Masters. The first time it was Musharraf who gave up on a single phone call and this time they did not even need a phone call, a letter for a third date diplomat did the trick.
I mean by towing the US line what exactly was forgiven and what problems were eased? As far as anyone can see, the dollar is 220 something, fuel prices, soaring, electricity units now costing around 40, inflation is over 43%, IMF still fuming and not willing to ease its conditions, still on the FATF grey list. So what exactly was eased for Pakistan? This is the question that those responsible for this whole regime operation need to make answerable and accountable. Until then it will be business as usual till next time.

He said there is no ban on oil, fertiliser and food by the United States. So we can assume that there is no problem in importing oil from Russia or other countries," Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said during a press briefing at the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday (31 August).

I hope he got this in writing from this certain US under secretary (Jose Fernandez). And hope he knows what legality in the US means.

Conversation is essentially hearsay and nothing is legally enforceable unless (and until) you put it in black and white (or on docusign nowadays).

If he recorded the conversation as proof without notifying the Under Secretary - that is also highly illegal, and cannot be submitted as evidence under a court of law (US law).

There is a word called "Plausible Deniability". I hope our academician shaheb with a Ph.D. knows this.

No word on whether Mr. Fernandez had authority to speak on this either.

If Bangladesh doesn’t have the money to buy the oil it needs then you need to be asking for aid first. Not favourable trade.

When did they object? Do you have any link? Russian oil is not sanctioned, only that the dollar can't be used to pay for it. You can pay with other currency or get into a barter agreement.

USA is now willing to go soft on Russian oil exports for a simple reason. Winter is approaching fast and they need to boost energy supplies as much as possible else their European allies will freeze to death. That's why they will voluntarily turn a blind eye to countries importing oil. There is a vulgar saying among us Northies (perhaps our brethren from across Wagah will be familiar with)

As to why they are very rigid with Pak, God knows. Maybe our Pakistani friends like @IceCold will be able to say better. Personally it doesnt make sense.

There is another possibility- I believe India is trying to explore it. Import it in the local currency itself such as INR or BDTk. Russia needless to say will have a surplus- but they can then invest it as local currency GoI/GoBD bonds or even invest in debt/equity portfolio or FDI.

Bangladesh has better economics and bilateral relations than Pakistan.
We are still begging for approval, cannot buy cheaper oil without permission granted by the USA.

But, why blame America for what it is today? America has become the great leader of Western (read Christian) society by virtue of its continuous scientific research and inventions for many centuries.

Thomas Savery, an English engineer first pioneered the steam engine in 1698 followed by Benjamin Franklin who discovered electricity in the year 1752,

The Christian world worked hard for centuries to industrialize after these two main inventions.

I am not citing the works of Newton, Galileo, and a hundred other Christian scientists and engineers, but the above two events propelled the Christian society to move forward. Think of the Wright brothers inventing the airplane.

When they were busy doing scientific basic research and building industries, we remain complacent with our old-time superstitions and do not learn or study from their works.

So, it is no wonder that America being the leader of the Christian/ Western world would rule over the world. And, for us, the grape is sour!!!
