news.outlookindia.com | US Has Excellent Military Ties With India: Pentagon

The United States has an excellent military to military relationship with India, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.

"We have very strong military-to-military relations with the Indian government, with the Indian military; have had them for some time," Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said at a news briefing.

Morrell said Defence Secretary Robert Gates recently visited India when he reaffirmed the Obama Administration's commitment to have strong working relationship with the Indian military.

"The Secretary just visited India recently and reaffirmed our strong working relationship with Indian military, exploring new ways in which we can partner and exercise and do disaster-relief work, and sell weapons and other military hardware to the Indians," Morrell said.

At a Congressional hearing recently, Admiral Robert F Willard, Commander US Pacific Command had argued that the US must continue to strengthen its relationship with India.

"We must ensure the US-India relationship remains rooted in our extensive common interests of which the Afghanistan-Pakistan issue is only one," he said.

"I think that the India-US relationship right now is stronger than we've ever enjoyed. As you know, because of our history, we've only been truly engaging with India mil-to-mil for about the last half a dozen years; and yet it's been pretty profound how far that's come," Willard said in response to a question at the Congressional hearing.

He said America's relationship with India has grown significantly over the past five years as both countries work to overcome apprehensions formed during Cold War era, particularly with respect to defence cooperation.

We some how have to adjust with USA, teach them diplomacy, as Americans get suckered by dumb ppl all the time!:rofl:

Samjha kar yaar...US is showing carrot to us:devil:

carrot is good. but we should always be aware that there will be a stick.

so think twice before jumping at the carrot. It might bring you within reach of the stick.

What think guys can India really trust USA ? the time has almost come when USA is going to drawback troops from AFPAK region..who knows it might take India seriously then..atleast in the Indo Pak issues.Or atleast sees the truth and starts supporting India against terrorism.....might be a silly question but just curious.:undecided:

i can't understand the nature of the ties

This is very simple, what US do is,

"Chor se kaho chori karo aur sahukar se laho jaagte raho"

i.e. they says to the thief that you continue with their business and also says to the businessmen that remain vigilant there are some thieves active in this area.

So they earn money and friendship of both by making both the people fool.

USA do which is best interest for them we should do which is best for us

Guys understand that they have their hands tied in AF...They need Pakistan more than ever because if Obama has to come back for next term he needs to do what he said during his campaign(critisizing Bush for his wars).... Health Insurance is another example .... We all know that his popularity was going down and he needs to do something that average American wants him to do... I hope this explain goodies for Pak...

Now let think about India from US perspective.... A booming economy which is projected to Grow at 8-10% for next 25 years...A country who can be used to check China's rising influence...A more or less stable democracy....One has to be nuts to ignore the writing on the wall....Good relations with India is going to benefit US and vice-versa... Once US is out of AF then do they have same pressing needs for Pakistan??? May be may be not....However will have pressing needs to have good relations with India...YES....

So please wait and see how things unfold in the future...One more thing whatever Influence we can/have gain(ed) in AF is Bonus to us becuase we hardly had any before 9/11.... So we have nothing to loose in this game of influence..Sadly a common Afghan is ignore in games like these...
