Good will gesture to the US prior to Dotard's visit to China?

Note:

As per @GS Zhou 's reminder, the liftship was originally a tanker, but later converted by a Chinese shipyard in 2008.

This....this can't be. Man I wonder if Americans know this .

Fake News....

According to Ships register, the ship MV Treasure was build by Split Shipyard in Croatia, the ship was not built by the Chinese.........The Owner Manager is ANGLO EASTERN SHIPMANAGEMENT - HONG KONG, CHINA, and the ship is chartered by Dockwise.

http://maritime-connector.com/ship/treasure-8617940/

MV Treasure is a Croatia Build, Chinese Own ship chartered to Dockwise which have a standing contract with the US Navy. That is the real news of the story.

US do not operate heavy semi dry dock ship, if they needed to lift any shipping, they would have to hire someone to do the job.

US contract goes to Dockwise Group (A Netherland Company) and the previous 3 occasion where US needed to tow their damaged destroyer.

USS Cole was transported by MV Blue Marlin (Dockwise IMO 9186338, reg Panama)
USS Samuel B Robert was transported by MV Blue Marlin
USS Fitzgerald was transported by MV Transshell (IMO 8512279 Builder: STX FINLAND HELSINKI)
USS McCain was transported by MV Treasure

The semi-submersible was made in China but operated by a Dutch company.

no, according to Marine Registrar MV Treasure was build by Split Shipyard (now Brodosplit Shipyard) in Croatia....

That ship was brought and managed by a Hong Kong Company and is currently chartered to Dockwise Group for Heavy Lift Contract.

@The Eagle can you close these fake news where the news is proven fake (Again, the ship is build by the Croatian as per marine ship's registrar http://maritime-connector.com/ship/treasure-8617940/) and the story have no origin, no link, no reference, sounded like a troll fest to me.

@TaiShang it will be great if you could include the information in your original post, to avoid any mis-understanding. Many thanks!

@The Eagle hi sir, just for your information before you make the judgement, thanks!

Thank you, I will update the original link accordingly. I guess it has been overlooked as I do not have much time to translate the entire article.

What matters is that social media is amused at the sight and it has become quite a focal point for discussion.

Since it has been turned/converted into a vessel entirely different from the original construction, it is fair to say it is Made in China.

This....this can't be. Man I wonder if Americans know this .

What is the harm even if it is like what is being reported. The world does not runs on the ones approach about everything like isolation, no contact or 24hrs drum beating of enemy. In my opinion, even if it is or not, doesn't make any difference as still, despite all the diplomatic drama etc, China-US have good relations.

It is not "Build by China" then, it was converted. which is a modification, so basically, if a ship was build somewhere and converted a boiler room or a flight deck or even a well deck in China, would that ship automatically become "Chinese Ship"

Convert is not the same as Building a ship, even if you are talking about converting a role. You don't dissemble the ship and rebuild it. And if you do that (Rebuild a ship), the Naval Law (Lloyd Register) would require a new registration.

Diplomatic contacts as well as nation to nation dealing must be practiced more than before for good relations and mutual understanding w.r.t. betterment of the world.

@jhungary isn't the ship being rebuilt and converted in China? as I see in above posts.

I agree. This is nothing to make it look like a competition. This is a good example of cooperation even in a very subtle way.

And, China's social media seems to have enjoyed it, even calling it "Princess Hug - “公主抱”。

At the Nantong COSCO Shipyard, the vessel was transformed into a T-Class ship, a major overhaul.

It's not rebuild, it was convert, if it was rebuild, LLoyd Register would have require a new IMO number as the ship is new (With different hull and different cross section, meaning different class and registration). IMO number unchanged (Remain IMO 8617940) which mean for the purpose of the registration, the ship is the same.

Basically Converting can mean a lot of thing, I can convert my 38 foot yacht into a stealth speed boat with minimal work on it basically to convert a 38 ft yacht into a speed boat is simply adding a powerful outboard and some trim on it.

And for oil tanker covert to semi-submersible, you would not change the hull and cross section, which mean the ship integrity remain intact (Hence the unchanged IMO), you would probably added a hydraulic lift and cutaway the hull. I can tell you more if I ask my dad (Who used to be in the Navy and shipping for almost 20 years) and my cousin (Who was still serving in the US Coast Guard)

I mean, just because I converted my 86 Camero from a hatchback into a convertible, that does not mean I build that Camero, right? So, if I go out and say "I BUILT THAT CAMERO" you would have expected me just trolling.

Hi sir,
Dockwise, who is the owner of this ship "Treasure", only mentions the name of the Chinese shipyard in the introduction document; seems even the owner thinks this is a "China-built" ship, not any country else.

here is the link for your check:

Anyway, this is your right, so we respect your judgement fully.

Indeed, I guess the transformation/conversion has been so comprehensive, so, it is fair to say that it is, at least, re-made in China.

By inference, it may be argued that DDG McCain has been hauled by a semi-submersible re-Made in China.

Because, again, by inference, if it had not been (re)made in China as a semi-submersible, it would not have been able to haul the US Navy ship.

If required, I may gladly re-edit the title as "re-made in China semi-submersible."
