Linda Thomas-Greenfield

US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield participates in a virtual coronavirus disease (Covid-19) Summit as part of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) from the South Court Auditorium in the White House complex in Washington, US, September 22, 2021

Funding also provides support to members of the local host community in Bangladesh
The United States has announced nearly $180 million in additional humanitarian assistance for those affected by the Rohingya refugee crisis in Myanmar, Bangladesh, and elsewhere in the region.
Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield made the announcement on Wednesday, said a press release by the State Department.

The US also commended Bangladesh and other countries supporting this response, and working toward a just and durable solution for Rohingya refugees and internally displaced persons.

The US hoped that other donors would come forward now with additional funds to sustain and increase support for the refugee crisis, and work for a durable solution.

With this new funding, the total humanitarian assistance by the US reaches more than $1.5 billion since August 2017, when over 740,000 Rohingya were forced to flee ethnic cleansing and other horrific atrocities and abuses in Rakhine State to safety in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, read the statement.

It also provides support to more than 472,000 affected members of the local host community in Bangladesh. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield demanded that the military junta immediately stop the violence, release all those unjustly detained, restore its path to democracy, and implement Asean’s Five Point Consensus.

“We also call on the regime to allow immediate and unhindered humanitarian access to people in need — including for the delivery of critical Covid-19 assistance.”

‘More is required’
The US humanitarian assistance delivers across multiple realms, including education, food security, health, nutrition, protection, shelter, disaster response, water, sanitation, and hygiene.

“The United States recognizes the challenges and responsibilities that the response has placed on the people and Government of Bangladesh, and we underscore the continued commitment of the international community to addressing and resolving this crisis,” Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield said in the statement.

“We commend the people and Government of Bangladesh, who have responded generously to the refugees who have arrived in Bangladesh. However, more assistance is required.”

‘Coup leaders behind atrocities against Rohingya’
Criticizing the February 1 military coup d’état and brutal military crackdown, the ambassador said, the US would continue to support Bangladesh and other countries that had made the humanitarian gesture to receive refugees from Myanmar.

ReutersHundreds of people have been killed in nationwide protests continued since Myanmar’s military seized power, detaining and deposing civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

“Many of those who led the military coup in Burma are the same individuals responsible for the atrocities against Rohingya, as well as atrocities and other human rights abuses against members of other ethnic and religious minority groups,” Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield said.

In the last few months, the US imposed sanctions on several military rulers and related entities, freezing any of their US assets and barring Americans from dealing with them.

On the other hand, Canada imposed additional sanctions on individuals and entities tied to the Myanmar armed forces, while the United Kingdom announced sanctions against state-owned enterprise Myanmar Gems Enterprise.

The trial of Suu Kyi
The Myanmar junta put ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi on trial for incitement, her lawyer said on Tuesday, the latest in a list of charges that could see her jailed for decades.

She pleaded not guilty to charges of incitement. Each charge carries a maximum of three years in prison.

Ousted president Win Myint also pleaded not guilty to incitement. Next month she will face a new trial on corruption charges, and she has also been charged with violating a colonial-era secrecy law, although this has also yet to come to court.

Perhaps Myanmar can establish a Rohingya autonomous region to end the chaos as soon as possible.
Yeah, as if they have the courage to do so. They will always get their *** whipped. The only sustainable outcomes would be for BD to annex Arakan with foreign support or re-education and integration of Rohingyas into Bangladesh society.

Rohingyas were a majority population in certain areas of Northern Rakhine (see map below). They have been for over a 1000 years. IMHO this area should be created as a safe area for the half million or so Rohingya. It could be an autonomous area free of Tatmadaw influence, law enforcement administered by UN troops.

Problem is, that Sittwe is located in that area and Tatmadaw does not want Rohingya to live there as Indians are building a port there for connectivity to Indian Manipur/Nagaland states up in North-east India.

All - please study the wiki carefully, it will expose a lot of misinformation campaigns by the Tatmadaw.

Myanmar Bamar govt. has systematically tried to do ethnic cleansing of any Indian population in Rakhine including Muslims starting with Indian Burmese purges after WWII . All Asians are more or less racist, but uneducated people like Burmese majority Bamars are more so. Add to that the additional mixture of racist Monks and the Tatmadaw which wanted to rid Rakhine of any Rohingya for cleaning up the area around Sittwe port, and you have a bad formula for ethnic cleansing per the UN. UN officials and Human Rights Watch have described Myanmar's persecution of the Rohingya as ethnic cleansing.[63][64]

Please see Tatmadaw sponsored religious persecution of Muslims starting halfway in Page 6 of this 2012 US State Dept. report,

If you are either a Muslim or Christian in Myanmar, life is hell for you. The government openly supports Buddhist seminaries and permits them to construct large campuses. Buddhist groups generally did not experience difficulty in obtaining permission to build new pagodas, monasteries, or community religious halls.

However - not only are building new mosques completely banned, even Friday congregations are routinely banned in Mosques in villages and towns. Myanmar authorities even have issues with how many children per family Rohingya have, they also restrict travel by Rohingya in and out of Rakhine State.

"The government openly supports Buddhist seminaries and permits them to construct large campuses. Buddhist groups generally did not experience difficulty in obtaining permission to build new pagodas, monasteries, or community religious halls"

So now you are offended by the fact that the government of a Buddhist country is building buddhist monasteries and openly supporting Buddhism? Aren't you from the nation whose government builds model masjid everywhere in Bangladesh?

.
They declare a lot and give nothing. This is just bs drama. The poor get nothing and especially if they are muslims

Perhaps Myanmar can establish a Rohingya autonomous region to end the chaos as soon as possible.
In modern times, only Tunku Abdur Rahman ceded Singapore from Malaysia.
I find no other such example.

The land south of Naaf Dariya to Sittwe in Arakan could be an autonomous region exclusively for the Rohingya under Myanmar.

However, I am appalled by the generosity of the US govt. It has funded another $180 million for the Rohingya. Please note also that the US extends about $160 million every year to support BD people's social uplifting unrelated to the Rohingya issue).

I wish America allows us to buy just 6 sq. of F-16 planes, 96 planes. ইহাকেই বলা হয় মামার বাড়ির আবদার!!

Bangladesh govt. does not prohibit building of Pagodas and monasteries in Buddhist majority (or even minority) areas.

In fact secular Muslims often visit and take part in festivities of other religions such as Pujas etc. all the time. Muslim tourists go to Buddhist Monasteries just to have a look around.

Does not mean they become idolaters just because they help their Hindu/Buddhist brothers and sisters.

Don't even try to compare Myanmar Govt. mentality with that of Bangladeshi people and Govt., seditionist as you are. Have some common sense. We don't prohibit people from practicing their religion, whatever it is.

Why do you always mention government? Bangladeshi government is one entity and the people are a separate entity. Bangladeshi government is peaceful and supports minorities. But the common people are somewhat becoming more radicalised.

.
@Bilal9 @bluesky I think BD govt should raise the issue in OIC. Rich arabs and non arabs should also help BD for rehabilitation of Rohingyas. After all OIC is meant for Muslims.
But the common people are somewhat becoming more radicalised.
What can be done about it? A govt can only make laws and implement it, which as per your own statement is being done by BD govt.

The way you make personal attacks on religion or others, you seem to be a son of a great Kafir without any humanities in your mind.

Learn to become a better human being and then try to adhere to a religion. Currently, you are unfit to belong to any religion. A kafir is far better than a guy like a Satanic mind.

Kafir = unbeliever. It's actually not derogatory as it looks like. But I agree it's not appropriate word!

However I would say , "Traitor is back" instead of kafir is back!

Would you call it as personal attack too? "The traitor , speratist , fifth columnist back"?

He openly talked about separation of CHT!
