US concerned over BGMEA statement

The US expressed grave concerns over the statements made by the head of BGMEA that individuals and labor rights activists who directly contact the US government or congress should be prosecuted for sedition.
‘These statements, if true, are outrageous and unacceptable,’ Marie Harf, deputy spokesperson of the US department of state said, responding to a question.
‘Bangladesh enjoys a rich tradition of parliamentary democracy, free speech, free association, and any attempt to muzzle civil society, including through these kinds of means, would be to the determinant of all Bangladeshis, she added.
Marie Harf said this while speaking at a regular press briefing in Washington on June 25. In the statement, the BGMEA chief Md Atiqul Islam had said anyone from Bangladesh who contacts the US government and the congress directly should be tried for sedition.
Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed Sunday alleged that IndustriALL Bangladesh was acting against the interest of apparel industry of the country by spreading false accusation of labour abuse and denial of workers’ rights to international stake holders.

Fact: BGMEA chief Md Atiqul Islam is know Awami thug and was installed by india backed Awami League just like all trade bodies of Bangladesh. The same Atiqul Islam told Rana Plaza injured and disabled that there will be no compensation unless they were dead or lost their body parts. These type of Awami thugs only hurting Bangladesh interest than protecting it.
