The customs intelligence personnel seized a powerful DJI brand drone having nine cameras from a citizen of the United States at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city in the early hours of Tuesday.

Quoting director general of customs intelligence Dr Moinul Khan BSS said, "We detained US citizen Mark Rumam Kutrobskir, 22, from the boarding lounge of the airport with a bag containing the drone at around 1.05 am Tuesday."

Customs intelligence authorities later released Kutrobskir after interrogation, he said, adding that the drone was seized as there was no necessary papers and prior permission of the concerned authorities.

The US made drone might be used in carrying out large-scale crimes and it is a threat to the security, he said.

Kutrobskir, who came to Bangladesh by a flight of the Emirates airline on January 26 without any declaration, was preparing to go to the USA via Guangzhou in China by a flight of China Southern Airlines before he was caught, Moinul said.

During the preliminary interrogation, he confessed that he has captured still images and videos of different parts of Bangladesh using the drone, he said, adding that the custom intelligence personnel are examining the memory card of the drone.

Customs intelligence personnel guess that the drone is highly powerful and a threat to the security.
