US cannot be trusted with nuclear weapons: Analyst

The United States is not in a position to criticize other countries for developing nuclear weapons, since it is the only nation that has used atomic bombs in warfare history, a geopolitical analyst in Europe says.

America’s “reckless” use of nuclear weapons on Japan during World War II points out that Washington cannot be trusted with nuclear weapons, despite what it tries to convey, said Joaquin Flores, director of the Center for Syncretic Studies in Belgrade, Serbia.

“The US is putting its nose where it doesn’t belong, trying to dictate the course of history and course of events for other countries outside of its now waning grasp of power over the world,” Flores told Press TV on Wednesday.

The United States dropped nuclear weapons on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945, killing at least 129,000 people.

“It was the United States and no other country in history which has used the nuclear bomb in the course of a war and furthermore, used them entirely on a civilian population; not once but twice,” Flores added.

The United States and China agreed on Wednesday to move ahead with a UN resolution against North Korea following Pyongyang's fourth nuclear test earlier this month.

US Secretary of State John Kerry, who arrived in Beijing on Tuesday, said a nuclear-armed North Korea poses a “threat to the world."

“Kim Jong Un’s actions are reckless, and they are dangerous,” Kerry said of North Korea’s leader.

As a result, Kerry added, “North Korea poses an overt threat, a declared threat, to the world, and it has stated its intention to develop a thermonuclear weapon.”
