US ambassador in UK ensures no body scan for Pak foreign minister

WASHINGTON: The extent to which the Obama administration will go to humour Pakistan is highlighted by the fact that its envoy to UK drove four hours to Manchester to ensure that a zealous American airline security does not body scan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi ahead of his arrival here.

When Qureshi's commercial flight to the US stopped in Manchester this week, American ambassador in London, Louis B Susman, drove four hours to be there for the hour long layover.

Susman's mission was to "avoid any unpleasantness - including the possibility that British-based US airline security might insist on body-scanning Qureshi - that might start the US-Pakistan strategic dialogue in Washington off on the wrong foot," the Washington Post reported.

As Pakistan and the US struggle to overcome what both characterise as a mutual "trust deficit," the Obama administration hopes that the upgraded strategic talks will consolidate the new partnership the President promised in exchange for Pakistan's cooperation in shutting down Taliban and al-Qaida havens in that country, the paper said.

Qureshi and his American counterpart Hillary Clinton held the strategic dialogue in Washington on Wednesday.

BE rational please, what u want is that all the Pakistanis (180 million of us) given diplomatic status worldwide???

OR world should abandon such security measures and let terrorists enter their homelands with ease ???? just because some people in one part of the world doesnt like it !!

We better blame Taliban because of whome We have to go through humiliation.

A body scan never shows a naked picture of a human being its just a 3d reference(image) of a human body and it will just show an image of anything which is kept hidden under a body, a pistol wrapped around the waste if in case it is there.

Now this bit might offend some body but in reality you cant even identify a person's scanner image if its given separately to judge.

There is nothing wrong with it and its also not against Islam. All the Muslims even women go for a heart transplant, kidney operations and child deliveries where a human being is lying with private parts uncovered such as chest in case of open heart surgery and all the persons in operation theatre can and have to see and touch. Then its all fine but when they just have to pass through such scanners its an Issue

All these things are allowed under required circumstances by Islam.

A Muslim can eat haram food or even pigs and dead human bodies if there is a fear to die of hunger.

Alcohol can be used for medical purpose and even normally drunk to keep the body warm if there is a condition of death of cold, provided there is no other option.

Killing an animal or even a Human being is allowed if not doing so would result in ones own death.

Also its US who sent their envoy on their own not following any orders from Pakistan. lol

Unfortunately, like our media we Pakistanis are over obsessed with abusing our own country and Government wether right or wrong!!!

I partially agree with Ice-Man...I was part of a similar debate when there was hue and cry about Mr APJ Kalam(India's Ex-President) being frisked....Then i supported the argument that he should not have been frisked...He is a man of far bigger stature to have gone through that....but when it comes to diplomats i think they should go throgh all what normal people goes...so that they can understand how things work out...How you are singled out just because of your looks and have to go through embarrasing things...

He is a foriegn minister of a country and on a diplomatic mission. if he goes through that scan, it will be an insult to the whole pakistani nation. We all know that it will not happen anyway. And secondly people cant take security risk to spare pakistanis or any other muslim from those kinds of scans, and we should understand this, after all it has all been muslims who have tried to blow up airplanes, so thats what we can expect.

I dont see a strong logic behind this my friend. nobody knows the ordinary passengers, they could be terrorist or a kind person, who knows, thats why they have put in place these tough security measures to differentiate between bad and good, but when it comes to diplomats, what is the reason to scan them? they are well knowm figures and they are not terrorits.
