The United States Air Force (USAF) wants to procure Chinese origin DJI Mavic Pro Platinum drones which cost $1099 each for specific missions.

The USAF is seeking to buy a new set of drones, and as part of a federal requirement, it has to document its justification if soliciting a particular brand name item, according to a notice released on the US Federal Business Opportunities website last month, Update.ph reported Wednesday.

“Mission requirements are our first major concern when selecting a SUAS platform,” according to a document dated Aug. 17, 2018. “Other platforms such as the Tiny Whoop, Ebee, and 3DR solo do not have the all-around versatility to perform the wide array of tasks (i.e. weather limitations, camera resolution, flight time/range) that we require.”

The document also cited other factors including cost-effectiveness of purchase, use, and maintenance, as other reasons to choose DJI vs. other brands.

“Thus far, we have not found another viable device that meets those requirements for the cost-effectiveness of the DJI Mavic Pro,” according to the document.

The Air Force’s Special Tactics operational units currently use a total of 15 DJI Mavic Pro drones across eight Special Tactics Squadrons.

The new purchase specifies that the Air Force wants Platinum versions of the Mavic Pro this time around.

According to the DJI company, the Mavic is a series of tele-operated compact quadcopter drones for personal and commercial aerial photography and videography use. The DJI Mavic Pro Platinum is a newer model of the revolutionary Mavic Pro version, offering improvements including 30-minute flight time and a 60% noise power reduction, which is made possible due to new FOC sinusoidal driver ESCs and 8331 propellers.

. .
DJI is the market leader in drone technology and ahead of any competition by a huge margin. The quality, features and price make it a winner.
Yes, but before that. No one would think that DJI was used for military purposes.

This is a surprise.

. . .

Incorrect claim. Chill.

Until and unless DJI is also Indian proxy ;)

You fill find many such 'claims' floating around.

Although on topic, they are awesome AFAIK. Civil use is there in many fields by civil business and enthusiast. Personally, unlike the nonsense peddled over 'Chinese Quality' with smirks and guffaws, people remain ignorant of the fact that the Chinese have every type of quality for every kind of market, and if you are willing to pay the price, you will get what may arguably match what US et al have to offer.

Probably shot down their own.

Shouldn't be. The refrain across the world is on 'Chinese Quality'. The dumbos do not realize the product mix that China offers if you are willing to pay the price! Have been trying to tell my own country members to get that notion out of their head. Just because they refuse to spend a little more to get best quality, does not mean China does not have the product with the quality to address that demand.

I don't quite understand. Although the quality of Indian products is very good (because most Indian machine tools come from China). But China still controls India's electronics, machinery, PV, rail transit and other markets. More importantly. China is penetrating India's arms market... Why have some Indians been criticizing the quality of Chinese products? This shouldn't be the responsibility of Indian wholesalers?

Like I told you the other day, you do not understand nuanced sentences :)

I was subtly telling people they are idiots to dismiss Chinese products as being useless and of poor quality. Trying to drive in a point that China caters to every kind of market demand - if very cheap product, then don't expect the high end quality, but if you want quality, then don't expect it to be priced as a very cheap product.

Example: I want to buy an item which, if made by US costs US $10 and provides me 10 years of service life. Now I want to not pay US $10, but only US $ 1. So China gives me a product to do the same function at US $1 and gives say 1 year life. Now I can not complain that it is not giving me 10 years, can I? Now suppose I have some money and I want to get great quality and want to buy US $10 worth of item, China may give me a product doing the same work, costing US $9.99 and giving me 3651 days of life :). It may not equal the life of 3652 days, but will still be same performance and costing slightly less, which is big savings in bulk.

Just an example. To make you understand what I said. :)

Indian denial and getting caught pants down .. u indian turds lol

@Arsalan

Should I address him as he deserves to now? :)

@DESERT FIGHTER So, DJI is Indian proxy now? Try again :D
Post a couple of more photographs .. emphatic proof of DJI being Indian:rofl:

You are correct. But it may not cost 9.99. It should be 7-8 USD.

It is wonderful to see the fanboys posting photos and 'information' which only they claim and proclaim as being true. While the OEM simply dismissed their claim of DJI being Indian

Epic

God.

Sue me .... it should be 3651.0122233222332 days. get over it! It was a bloody example. Take a damn piece of product and we can argue the next 100 years

Is there such a possibility? Although Chinese products are cheaper. But is the quality of Chinese products better than that of US? or is it the same as that of the US?

For example. We all know that India buys Chinese parts (bearings) for its artillery. Because Chinese products are cheaper. But because of India's overall industrial level...... Indian artillery cannot work. Some Indians think this is because it uses cheap and inferior Chinese parts.
But you know... Saudi army used Chinese cannon to attack Yemen armed forces. They did not choose Western products...

So don't you think Indians need to find their own reasons?
