Chief minister Yogi Aditynath has taken cognizance of the incident and directed senior officials in the district to send a detailed report from the ground and take strict action against the accused.
The murdered duo identified as Jagdish alias Rangi Das (55) and Sher Singh alias Sewa Das (45) were priest at a local Shiva temple in the village and used to live inside the premises. According to cops, they were murdered using a sharp weapon and the prime suspect has been arrested from the neighbouring village.
"Two days back, there was a dispute between sadhus (priests) and an addict Murari alias Raju as the latter had stolen forceps of the sadhus. Under the influence of opium, he murdered the priests using a sword. Locals in the village had spotted him leaving the village in the morning with a sword in his hand," Bulandshahr SSP Santosh Kumar said.
According to senior, the prime suspect Murari was traced 2km from the crime spot and apprehended by the police. "He barely had clothes on and in an intoxicated state when he was nabbed. He is not in a condition to divulge details. Most likely he was enraged over being admonished by priests for stealing the spatula," SSP said.
