The United States Has Indicated To Lease Or Sell A Nuclear Submarine To Australia

US floats nuclear subs option

PUBLISHED: 23 hours 40 MINUTES AGO | UPDATE: 12 hours 54 MINUTES AGO

John Kerin

The United States has indicated for the first time it would be willing to lease or sell a nuclear submarine to Australia in a move that will inflame tensions with China and force the Coalition to declare its policy on bolstering regional defence.

US Ambassador to Australia Jeffrey Bleich told The Australian Financial Review yesterday that whichever option Canberra pursued as a replacement for its Collins class submarines, Washington viewed Australia’s subs program as crucial to security in the Asia-Pacific region.

“Decisions about the design of the Australian submarine are up to Australia’s leaders, including whether they pursue diesel power or nuclear power,” Mr Bleich said. “Whatever they decide the US is willing to help.’’

Why would China send a sub to Australia?????

Just an American move for expanding their influence.

America needs to stay out of Australia.

Collin class is very old, we need a WAY, WAY, WAY better sub than Collins class in Australia.

American sub is good but last I heard they are going for German sub or the Gotland class. See if America can pull any deal with Australia.

The best deal Aussie could get is a Joint US/AUS venture of Future Submarine.
However, leasing Virginia Class or purchase one when waiting for either type 214 or Gotland class is not an unreasonable move.

This is old news and its never going to happen. Same as trying to lease an aircraft carrier to an ally. In any case Australia could be considered a threat to any growing power in Asia. Same thing happened to Japan when it wanted to invade Australia. Not to mention China was VERY concerned about U.S. Marines on Australia soil. A few hundred of them and China was concerned. Why? Unless we are in the way of China's ambitions perhaps?

Most likely be just stationed in Australia, operated by USN. It wont do anything but these two things.

1: P iss off China [Deeply],which can prove fatal for Australian economy.
2: Turns Australia into a bullseye.

Not going to happen. New subs are going to be designed and built in Australia. that's the strong indication from the current government.

Just a myth, China needs Australia as much as Australia needs China.

I am sure Australian also wants some 40 P-3Cs along with 10+ P-3C AEW&Cs. This can also be lethal for the Chinese...

Guess, it will soon be an India to recieve such an offer...US really wants to **** off someone so deeply!

Not happening until we become their ally like Japan, Australia, UK, Taiwan or SK.

US are changing or relaxing its rule and will do every possible thing to take the dragon out of its way…There was a time when countries including India were after US for their safety but now it’s the question for very existence of the US as super power and in fact the security of its national is in jeopardy..

So, it will be the US who will come out with an offer to anyone and everyone who has grievances or serious issues with the communist evil..

I know everything I said above won’t happen in a day or two, but I am sure, the US strategic group must have started choking out a plan in this regard and it will be rolled out gradually.
