Defense Secretary Ashton Carter recent visit to India might have provided India much-needed boost in developing Second Indigenously developed Aircraft Carrier. Carter and Parrikar “agreed to expedite discussions to take forward cooperation on jet engines, aircraft carrier design and construction, and other areas”

While the possible sale of Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) developed by General Atomics was agreed upon by both. United States also has agreed to play a lead role in helping in developing a modern Aircraft carrier which can really challenge Chinese Navy in the region.

United States has quietly also agreed to help in designing of the ship since INS Vishal will be the largest Warship construction which India will undertake and US has vast experience in construction of even bigger Super Aircraft carriers. Indian Navy’s Naval Design Bureau (NDB) which has been tasked to design new aircraft carrier is already taking active help from Us counterparts to freeze final design of new ship.

INS Vishal which will be 65,000-tonne warship also will feature CATOBAR (catapult assisted take-off but arrested recovery) configuration for launching fighters as well as heavier aircraft from its deck. India till now only operated STOBAR (short take-off but arrested recovery) Aircraft carriers and CATOBAR Aircraft carriers always have been strong domain of United states navy and that is one of the reasons ,why Us will play a crucial role in design of INS Vishal from its initial stage .

US in principal also agreed to India’s demand to provide New Advance Electronic Warfare Suite for the new aircraft carrier, which will be similar to one installed on the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford.

While INS Vishal is still a decade away for becoming a reality yet. India and US have agreed to hold further talks for further cooperation in development of new aircraft carrier which US strongly believes will be instrumental against rising threats from Chinese Navy in the region and is more then determined to help India develop it.

We should be careful to have too much US involvement in our projects !

. .
we are only going in these joint ventures after some stern agreements dont worry we know how pakistanis have burnt there hands dealing with us . no harm in learning from there mistakes:coffee:

. .
Aircraft carrier is a big strategic asset and will IN for many years. If US know the inner details of it then it may cause disadvantage in future disagreements.
We are not buying but make it in India. They will provide technical assistance only.

Agree. However we still have to provide them with blueprints for components we want to get from them. I am sure with their expertise they would know most of the details from it.

That's not a problem . Problem will be like we will be forced to buy their jets which will be problem unless we go ahead with navy AMCA

. . .
Meh they already have an edge .... This A/C is not meant for US ... It's meant to deter China & maybe Pak. When we make one for the US .... then you'll see they will not be a player :D

It's still a decade to go for INS Vishal to became reality.

It may take longer than that.

IN may deploy mix of Rafale M and N LCA (Mk III perhaps) on it and I think ultimately Rafale M will be replaced by N AMCA.

If US does help in carrier design as well as provides EMALs, then we can be sure we will have an american air wing.

Hawkeye AWACs and Sirosky S-70 are already confirmed,

only thing not confirmed is whether India will go for F35C or Rafale M

Not really...the DTTI clearly addresses all these issues.

Given the eagerness of US in helping in our carrier issues, I'm pretty sure they'll hard press to induct F-35Cs in our carrier group.
