The Union Home Ministry has asked central agencies to report on aspects of “national concern” said to be involved in a proposal for setting up an international Arabic university in Kerala, top officials privy to the development told The Hindu.

The move comes on the heels of Additional Chief Secretary K.M. Abraham and Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson officially opining that that it will be appropriate for the government to get the MHA to examine the proposal.

In response to a Cabinet note asking if a special officer could be appointed for the proposed international varsity, the top State officials indicated that some key factors may need to be addressed with regard to the proposal itself.

One was that the proposal implied drawing funds from abroad and various other sources for the university. The State Finance Department, anyhow, had stated its inability to fund the varsity, needing an outlay of about Rs.100 crore.

The Kerala State Higher Education Council had recommended promulgation of an ordinance to set up the varsity and the draft had suggested formation of an ‘International Arabic University of Kerala Fund’ that could enable the varsity to accept donations from abroad, apart from using Union and State government support.

But the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the University Grants Commission had no approved guidelines as yet for allowing international varsities in the country, it was pointed out. The officials had also questioned the rationale itself of establishing an international Arabic varsity when two State universities had Arabic departments and colleges were offering the language to the students. In addition, Arabic did not figure among the country’s scheduled languages, they noted.

That apart, they also reminded that a union decision on allowing international varsities was still pending before Parliament.

Since when did the Arabic become an official language of India?.Some stupids dont even know how to write our own mother language Malayalam and they want to import wahhabism and some foreign language with the expense of some Arabian states.

Arabic is not our mother tongue .It is malayalam .
Stategovt should spend this money for the malayalam language .

The scholars and writers who have been teaching in the modem colleges and universities have taken part mainly in translation. We note that a number of valuable works have been translated from Sanskrit, English, Urdu, etc. into Arabic
by them.

Madras University established in 1857 A.D. Arabic was included in its offering courses in 1927 A. D.

Bombay University established in 1857 A.D. In this university too, Arabic language and literature has been taught in different stages of learning including doctorate.

Jamiah Milliyyah Islamiyyah established in 1920. Although Arabic was introduced in its course list at the very beginning yet the Department of Arabic came into existence in 1982 A.D.

Here, different courses on Arabic language and literature are offered in different standards of education including B.A., M.A.,M.Phil.andPh.D alongwith certificate and diploma courses in modern Arabic.
Besides the above mentioned universities, in this connection, it needs mention of Delhi University, Lucknow University, Usmaniyyah University,Benares Hindu University, Allahabad University, Kerala University, Kashmir University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Gauhati University, Assam University etc.

The teaching of Arabic was started in 1917 and the department was established in 1973.The Department has been conducting Research in the area of Arabic literature (modern and classical) and Arab History and Culture and other allied subjects. The Department plans to take up comparative studies with Indian culture and different Indian languages.

We Indians still have strong academic educational system and we are aware of history of most of the nations.

Our Universities rank is been shown low but in reality our universities have produced world class academics.
