Mystery warplanes again attack Dawn in Tripoli

Unidentified aircraft have this morning again bombed Operation Dawn positions in Tripoli in a reprise of Monday’s attacks. Fifteeen people are reported to have been killed and 30 wounded in the raids which happened at around 5 am. This time, it was buildings on the Airport Road belonging to Waha Oil Company that were hit. They are said to have been housing weaponry and vehicles belonging to Operation Dawn forces.

Also reported hit was the Wadi Al-Rabie compound of the Man-Made River company which has been used by one of the Misratan militias as its operations base. It had been earlier struck in
Monday’s raids.

Today’s raids are seen as a response to the capture by Operation Dawn forces yesterday of the Waha Oil buildings and the area around, including the Interior Ministry buildings on the other side of the Airport Road as well as the neighbouring Hay Akwakh and Hay Zahur residential areas. The Interior Ministry buildings were until now held by Zintanis and the two districts by local forces.

The latter had been subject to constant shelling over recent days, forcing most residents to flee.

According to one of the few remaining residents in the area, yesterday’s successful attack was carried out by Tripoli forces of Operation Dawn; there were no Misratans involved, the person who did not want to be named, told the Libya Herald. He said the Tripoli forces included members of the Ghnaiwa Brigade from Abu Sleem as well as of the Tripoli Revolutionaries Brigade under the control of Haithem Tajouri.

As yet there is no indication who did the airstrikes. As with Monday’s raids against Wadi Rabie and Gasr Ben Gashir, they appear to have involved highly effective precision bombing.

In Monday’s case, this caused analysts to dismiss claims by retired General Khalifa Hafter that it had been carried out by Libyan airforce warplanes under his command. A number of informed sources, including US ambassador Deborah Jones, also noted that Libyan aircraft did not have the capacity for such precision bombing or of flying from eastern Libyan bases without refueling.

Claims by the Libyan Revolutionaries Operation Room and Operation Dawn that Monday’s attackers had flown from Wattayah airbase near the western border, controlled by the Zintanis, likewise appear wide of the mark as the airbase is reported to have remained unusable since NATO forces bombed its runway during the revolution.

Sources in Malta, where Air Traffic Control can monitor Libyan airspace, refused to reveal what their screens showed on Monday at the time of the first strike.

Today, a member of the Misratan Military Council has been quoted accusing the Egyptian Air Force of carrying out the Airport Road attack, claiming that a plane was spotted on the radar accompanied by an air fuel tanker.

The Eygptians had already denied responsibility for Monday’s raid, as had the Italians, British, French and Americans. So did the Algerians. Yesterday Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra said that “Algeria that had previously repeatedly denied military solutions and still today affirms this position.” He added that based on Algeria’s “bitter experience” there could be no military solution to Libya’s problems. These had to have a political resolution.

Despite the official denial, there is growing conjecture in Algiers that Algerian Su24 warplanes have been involved the Tripoli attacks. The independent daily Al-Watan today maintained that Egyptian planes were incapable of mounting an attack on Tripoli since they did not have inflight refueling capacity. Al-Watan indicated that in such circumstances, there was a very clear probability that the warplanes have been Algerian.

Another Algerian newspaper El Khabar on Thursday made a similar inference saying that Monday’s attacks on Gasr Ben Gashir may have been targeting the Algerian Islamist leader Mukhtar Belmukhtar who, the Algerian government says, was responsible for the January 2013 assault on the Al Amenas gas facility in which 40 oil workers were killed. Also thought to have been present in Tripoli at the time, it said, was Abu Iyad, the leader of Ansar Al-Sharia in Tunisia. It is understood that both men have since left the country.

The south of the Libyan capital was targeted by a new air raid, directed against the Islamist militia, but nobody is able to say with certainty where do the mysterious aircraft that seem to lend a hand to the nationalist fighters defending the airport Tripoli.

The new raid was launched on the night of Friday to Saturday, occurred five days after the first bombing, also at night, which has caused turmoil among the population of Tripoli and raised many questions remained unanswered.

Neither the militia referred nor the interim government, with no real authority over the country and serving in Tobruk, 1,600 km east of Tripoli, have been able to identify the two planes that launched the first raid Monday.

And Saturday after the new air strike against Islamist near Tripoli airport positions, a spokesman for Islamist militia said the same thing.

"We have not yet identified the aircraft that led the raid, as (we have not identified) who attacked us on Monday," said Mohamed al-Ghariani, spokesman for the Islamist group "Fajr Libya "(" Dawn of Libya ").

According to him, the aircraft in question, south of Tripoli, an army headquarters and a warehouse nearby, killing at least ten people dead and twenty wounded Islamist fighters.

HQ in question had changed hands in recent days, the Islamist fighters, some of which comes from Misrata, east of Tripoli, having ripped those, nationalists of Zintan (west).

Dissident General Khalifa Haftar hostile to Islamists and their opponents favor of Zintan, claimed the first air raid, but experts have questioned its ability to carry out such attacks.

According to these experts, the aircraft available to the general Haftar, based in Benghazi, 1,000 km east of Tripoli, were not sufficient autonomy to launch such raids and are not equipped, in addition, to operate overnight.

The Libyan government has said about him investigate the identity of the aircraft that launched the first raid but has since provided no further details.

Mystery and speculation

Mohamed al-Ghariani, there is no doubt that these raids are intended to relieve pressure on the Zintan militia who, according to him, difficulty repel the men of "Fajr Libya" whose ultimate goal is to take control of Tripoli's international airport.

Fighting for control of the airport, closed since fighting began on July 13, were the most violent in nearly three years in the Libyan capital.

The most fanciful theories circulating in the media and Libyan politicians on these mysterious aircraft. Some talk of intervention by Western countries, but France, Italy and the United States have denied any involvement.

For Islamists, the involvement of foreign countries to the call of the Libyan authorities is not ruled out: the new Parliament, elected on June 25, called for foreign intervention to protect civilians.

Others cite the trail of neighboring countries, especially that of Egypt, hostile to Islamists. But the authorities in Cairo challenged by many Libyan Islamists, have not responded to these accusations. Algiers, for its part, has repeatedly said he would not intervene in Libya.

"We must strive for a consensus to set up a government and institutions capable of directing" Libya but "go with our strengths to restore the situation is not a solution and can not be a solution," and said August 7th Prime Minister Algerian Abdelmalek Sellal.

Meanwhile, some in Libya say that General Haftar have repaired in Russia Sukhoi bombers type capable of launching such raids.

And another assumption is that Zintan fighters, struggling, have ensured the services of mercenaries and have hired aircraft indefinitely army to launch these raids.

Libya forces Fajr (Dawn of Libya) took control Saturday from Tripoli International Airport and accused Egypt and the UAE to be the perpetrators of the mysterious air raids that targeted positions in the capital .

Mohamed al-Ghariani, spokesperson of the group "Fajr Libya" ("Dawn of Libya") had initially said he could not identify the perpetrators of the raid, the second of its kind in a few days. This is a statement q u'un another spokesman, Ahmed Hadia , accused "governments of Egypt and the UAE to be involved in the attacks."

The statement, reported by the Libyan Information Agency Lana, reported "information intelligence showing that the revolutionary governments of the UAE and Egypt are involved in these air attacks."

The spokesman Fajr Libya called on all "international partners of Libya, the UN, the Arab League, the African Union, the European Union and all the states that supported the revolution of 17 February fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities to prevent the attack on the sovereignty of the Libyan state. "

The spokesman Fajr Libya accused the deputies assembled at Tobruk and the provisional government of being responsible for the attack to which they are "associated" for which they will have to "answer" in legal terms.

Fajr Libya, which included militiamen from Misrata who come to take a victory over those of Zintan, allies of General Khalifa Haftar, requested an urgent meeting of parliament at its headquarters in Tripoli.

The airport, located 30 km south of the capital was in the hands of militiamen from Zintan since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 Heavy fighting took place for its control causing extensive damage to infrastructure and the destruction of many devices.

The battle took a more violent turn for ten days. It ends with a setback for the Zintan militia and General Khalifa Haftar.

Libya: Nationwide protests against Haftar's operation

Thousands of Libyans took part in protests in six cities on Friday against the Karama Operation led by retired general Khalifa Haftar in Benghazi, Anadolu reported.

The protests were held in the cities of Tripoli (north), Benghazi (east), Misrata (center), Gheryan (northwest), Al-Khums (north), and Sabha (south).

The protests, titled "the decisive Friday", also came in support for the Operation Libyan Dawn, led by revolutionary militants in Misrata and Tripoli who are seeking to regain control of Tripoli's International Airport.

The protesters chanted against Haftar's forces and the MPs who took part in parliament sessions in Tobruk city. They called for respecting the 2011 constitutional declaration which stipulates that the parliament should be based in Benghazi.

The majority of MPs had earlier decided to hold their sessions in Tobruk, which they believed to be safer than Tripoli and Benghazi.

I will not take lessons from a man (or kid) who advocates violent revolution across the region which will result in massive bloodshed across the region of the same Arabs and Muslims (or other religions but of course you don't really care if they die). You are no pacifist and neither am I.

I'm sure these 'revolutionaries' are an integral part of your plan, however, they are not that popular in Libya as result of things like this (which are becoming more and more common):

Egypt Denies Intervening in Libya
CAIRO — Aug 24, 2014, 6:56 AM ET

AP_logo_update_20130709.gif

Egypt's president has denied any military involvement in neighboring Libya, a day after Islamist militias accused Cairo of bombing their posts in Tripoli.

Egypt's state news agency MENA carried President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi's comments on Sunday. They came in response to accusations a day earlier by Islamist militias in Tripoli, who blamed Egypt and the United Arab Emirates for a series of mysterious airstrikes. The Libyan air force denied it was behind the attacks last week. Two airstrikes killed 15 fighters and wounded another 30 on Saturday.

El-Sissi said his armed forces have not carried out any military operations outside Egypt "so far."

He said Egypt is in consultation with Libya's neighbors to find a political solution to the violent power struggle between rival groups.

LOL, you again show your weakness by cheap attacks/putting words in my mouth.

UAE/Egypt attacked according to American intelligence in the region. Which proves that they're aiding General Haftar and his forces.

But, it's also puzzling why the UAE would be involved and who's airspace did they cross to do this.
