Outrage in Rajya Sabha over fairness cream for private parts

New Delhi, April 24 2012, (IANS):

An advertisement for a fairness cream for women's private parts sparked outrage in the Rajya Sabha Tuesday with a CPI-M member raising the issue and the presiding officer saying that the government should take note of her contention.

Raising the issue in zero hour, Communist Party of India-Marxist member T.N. Seema said the advertisement pointed to the manufacturer's "perversion".

"This advertisement shows graphic details of a female body in a demeaning manner. It shows the perversion of the company," she said.

She demanded that the house condemn the advertisement. P.J. Kurien, who was in the chair, supported her contention and said: "I think the government should take note of it."

Seema also sought the intervention of the information and broadcasting ministry and said there should be action against the advertisers as well as the company for "portraying women in a derogatory manner".

She said the All India Democratic Women's Association had already demanded action but nothing had been done.

"Till date no action has been taken. No legal action was pursued against the company," she said, adding that the existing mechanism had proved ineffective.

I see no reason whatsoever to get offended by the advert. They are not claiming about "Fairness" but cleanliness and dryness. And female hygiene is a legitimate concern in sweaty countries like ours. THe politicians who objected either know nothing about female hygiene problems or are really illiterate about the advert and its claims.

I bet windjammer got his panties all twisted up in excitement by reading only the misleading "fairness" title without as much as trying to understand what it was all about. He also has been known to twist and change titles to reflect his skewed vision of Indians. Such a tool!

Rest assured, there is nothing between the lines....posted it in this section merely for humour.
But then talk about knickers getting twisted. !!

The article highlights only one thing; the incredible India is not a permissive society, as it is rumored to be.

I think unless vaginal bleaching creams are being discussed in the Parliament of any other country in the world, we are probably actually the most broadminded and permissive.

Either that.. or people in the subcontinent are the penultimate loafers to be bothered about such mundane things.
