Corridor Part of Large Chinese Game.

In 2013 During Pak-China high level meetings Chinese officials asked Pakistan to eradicate all proxies from Pakistani main land at all cost, china is ready to give whatever Pakistan needs. Pakistan started ops Zarb-e-Azab in all parts of country after months of planning.

In 2015 in last three months Pakistan has given huge surprises to world, tested a missile with range of 2750km,disclosed a fully operational UCAV, did 23 March parade to boost morale of nation, has increased production of JF-17 up to 30 per year it means current fleet is above 100,is planning to acquire four more general purpose surface vessels+8 subs. This has shocked many of peoples on Globe but it’s not worth shock, looking and situation SCS this all seems per-planned. In SCS dispute there are many countries, until know this dispute is only limited to diplomatic protests and harsh comments but there is chance of a major conflict in SCS because USN is shifting its 60%of total fleet into that region.

All countries who are part of that dispute including Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam who with support of US are able to totally stop Chinese crossing through Strait of Malacca

this move is likely going to hit Chinese imports and exports very badly china to avoid this situation is building this corridor. This will be cost effective and more secure then that long route. Dispute in SCS is unlikely going to be solved in near future.

Pakistan has no dispute with any country except India. When this corridor will complete, Pakistan Navy will be a powerful Arm of PDF along with PAF. This will balance conventional equation with India.Pakistan is going to benifit most from this move.

Well as they say everything comes with its own pros and cons.

Pros first
  • Gwadar port would give an easy access to central Asia
  • For Pakistan, this project would bring hope to the sleepy fishing city of Gwadar, located in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan (Made bold for a reason!)
  • For china, ofcourse this project would give it greater access to Indian ocean
  • The project makes Pakistan more loyal to China, as it attempts to break the U.S. encirclement of Asia.
Cons now
  • For the post to be a success the security situation in Pak must improve and reform, and ergo China had asked Pakistan to finish the proxies. Lets also not forget threats from BLA, Baluchistan Liberation Army which seeks to have Baluchistan secede from Pakistan.
  • The success of this project also depends on NS and his party, they should 've entrepreneurial acumen to develop a bold economic strategy out of the corridor. Would they be able to achieve it? We dont know!
  • I read somewhere that Gwadar and its surroundingss lack any significant infrastructure, infact the port is not even connected to Pakistan’s national road network. Ergo importing and exporting would be costly through Gwadar
  • Another issue was Govt of Balochistan was not consulted when the Gwadar port was tranfered to the Chinese firm, that caused a tiff between the central govt and govt of Balochistan. This has given arise to a dispute between the Pakistan Navy and Baluchistan over the control of land necessary for Gwadar’s development.
  • And lets not forget a rival port at Chabahar in Iran which would decrease Central Asian (especially Afghanistan’s) reliance on Pakistani ports.

Once it get fully ops Chabahar will loose everything,it is connected to rest of Pakistan via coastal highway.

BLA is doing nothing only bombing pipelines and killing civilians it's days are counted after TTP is finished.

The project makes Pakistan more loyal to China, as it attempts to break the U.S. encirclement of Asia.
read post no#9 Pakistan is loyal to no one on planet even itself:-)

Thanks for the share.I wonder who came up with this brilliant idea? secondly,do we know when the work will start ? i can't wait.

The benefits are obvious to all parties, the problem is that ambition hardly aligns with reality. It remains to be seen just how successful the corridor will be.

By the way, what's the expected time line for completion?

Thanks for good post.

I liked the data about Pakistan economy i e 2012-2013 Pakistan GDP was 310 Billion US$. What it is today? may be around 340 350 Billion US$
