Unable to clear debt, 22-year-old Barnala man commits suicide. Just like his father, grandfather

A loan taken by a Barnala family 40 years ago has taken the life of not one but four generations of men.

After his father and grandfather ended their life over the loan, 22-year-old Barnala man also got stuck in this spiral of debt. Lovepreet Singh, 22, consumed poison at his home in Bhotna village on Wednesday after he couldn't repay the amount, police said.

As per the Punjab government commitment, Lovepreet was entitled to a loan waiver up to 5 lakh but got a waiver of 57,000.

While the unpaid loans total around Rs 9 lakh, the Singhs' own just an acre land. Of 8.57 lakh, the Singhs took a loan Rs 6 lakh from private money lenders and 2 lakh from banks over several decades.

The first suicide in this family took place 40 years back when Lovepreet's great grandfather Joginder Singh ended his life. His son and Lovepreet's grandfather Bhagwan Singh also committed suicide 25 years back after he failed to pay off the loans.

Kulwant Singh, Lovepreet's father, too couldn't take the stress. He ended his life in 2018. Lovepreet's great grandfather's brother had also ended his life.

Punjab government's farmer loan waiver scheme has failed to stop farmer suicides in the state with over 60 farmers committing suicide after the state government launched its loan waiver scheme.

so sad... the curse of interest... May Allah save us from it. But today's financial system is such that for any business you need investment which only bank can provide. Which totally run on interest.
Or on credit like these agriculture and other business. A wholesale dealer give his goods on credit to small shops. Those small shops if able to sell then only can give back to wholesale dealer otherwise go default. Large store just provide the space for purchase otherwise they don't buy anything but just take commission on sale.

Same goes for cellular business, spice, clothing, plumbing, cement and other small business.

You know, I was kinda wondering a couple days ago why Communism doesn't get mixed with some kind of religious theology.... I mean if you want to establish some kind of Communist dictatorship, presenting yourself as a man of God seems like it would be a more effective way of gaining mass support than being an atheist

I guess it's okay as long as you're Muslim first and don't accept anything that's contrary to Islam.

However.... you look at Franco-era Spain..... if you research the history of the Spanish Civil War, Franco and the Nationalists were fighting for a Catholic Spain.... the other side (Communists and Anarchists) was fighting for an atheist Spain..... Franco and his forces.... they had an ideology which merged Catholicism and fascism.....

so you see, Catholicism by itself was not effective enough..... they needed to add fascism to it to make their ideology effective

My brother, this is society now and people are so stupid that they think they are smart. You see it in the news.. I am moderate Muslim, I am a leftist Muslim, and now I am a socialist, democratic, or communist Muslim. These people would rather read the manifesto of a kufar, racist biggot, then look at the words of the Muslims. They don't dare read the Quran from Allah. They have new holy books.. this the new craziness. Honestly, the game is soo rigged its not even funny and our people are falling victim to this type of ideology.
