UNITED NATIONS: UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon requested Pakistan on Tueday to contribute its troops to UN peace keeping mission in South Sudan.

Moon has urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and several other world leaders to contribute troops to add 5,500 personnel to the 7,000 strong UN force in South Sudan to protect civilians from the fast deteriorating law and order situation in the country, said spokesperson for the UN Secretary General.

“On the situation in South Sudan, the Secretary-General has been speaking to many leaders, reaching out for their support for bolstering the capacity of the UN peacekeeping mission in the country (UNMISS) to allow it to do its utmost to protect civilians and for stepping up efforts to find a political solution to the crisis,” said the spokesperson in a statement.

Pakistan is the largest troop contributor to the UN with 7,592 troops. It also contributes over 600 police units.

Speaking at the UN Security Council on Tuesday, the secretary general commended the efforts of peacekeepers and UN personnel in maintaining peace and providing humanitarian aid to the people of South Sudan.

“I commend our brave peacekeepers and all UN personnel helping to protect civilians, provide humanitarian assistance and monitor human rights, under very difficult circumstances,” said Moon.

Condemning the attacks on peacekeepers and UN personnel in South Sudan, the secretary general demanded that attacks on UN personnel and civil must cease at once. He further said that UN would conduct the investigation into the matter and those found guilty of these incident would be held personally accountable.

“Those responsible will be held personally accountable. They should know the world is watching,” said secretary general.

Moon has proposed reinforcing the UNMISS with 5,500 more peacekeepers as well as additional assets. The mission currently has over 6,800 troops and police in the country.

Tens of thousands of people have been displaced by the ongoing conflict in South Sudan. As many as 45,000 people are seeking protection at UNMISS bases.

Our Hasina has claimed Ban Ki Moon asked her for one BA Bn.Could be a carrot for BA under the current situation.

I strongly disagree with sending troops.

This isn't "peacekeeping" since there is no peace to keep. This is a full blown civil war regardless of how the US wants to describe it. None of the groups in Southern Sudan have threatened Pakistan nor attacked us while Sudan is an ally so why would we assist Southern Sudan when they'll just wind up attacking our own ally later?

I would rather send troops into Kashmir to fight the Indian occupation particularly considering the UN and US have done nothing to bring an end to the presence of Indian forces on our lands nor have they done anything to assist in stopping the atrocities taking place at the hands of Indian soldiers even when they know mass graves exist and have both testimony and video evidence of the abuses taking place in a conflict much older and where more people have died in comparison to places like South Sudan. Even sending them to the UN mission in Palestine or possibly a covert mission to help protect the BNP/JI in Bangladesh from Awami League's savages is a better use of our men and resources.

As for South Sudan send George Clooney.

Indians are free to die there if they want

when indians can do 43 vs 2000 in South Sudan theny why are Pakistani peace keeping troops required ?

Pakistan shouldn't send our troops there, we need them in our country and why our soldiers should put their lives in danger for other country's war. We already have alot at our plate, better to stay away from this sh!t as it's none of our business. UN should ask Bangladesh & India for more troops.

dar gaya kya????
sub dar gaya ha bai..

UN sends more peacekeepers to South Sudan after thousands killed - Telegraph

P.S: UN peacekeeping is a charity/service done to a poor country/people during any armed conflicts, for mainlining peace and to protect civilians in that country. this is the same UN, pakistan recently asked for more role in LOC.

in india the forces going to any country as peacekeeper are volunteers be they are form military, paramilitary, or police.
