Ukraine to produce Turkish armed drones: Minister | News

October 7, 2021/0 Comments/in Aljazeera News/
Ukraine has previously used the Turkish armed drones against pro-Russian separatists in the country’s east.
Ukraine said it will build a factory to produce Turkish armed drones that Kyiv previously bought to use against pro-Russian separatists in the east, a deal that might upset Kyiv’s adversary Moscow.
“A land plot on which the factory will be built has already been chosen,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said at a news conference on Thursday with Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv.
“There were a number of obstacles to the implementation [of this project] but all of them have been removed,” he added, without providing further details.

Cavusoglu did not speak specifically about the subject but stressed that Kyiv and Ankara were “in the process of strengthening their relations in many sectors”, including defence.
Moreover, the Turkish foreign minister in a tweet said his country was “fully supporting territorial integrity of Ukraine and “tourism relations” between the two nations were “rapidly developing”.

In late September, Ukrainian Minister of Defence Andriy Taran and Haluk Bayraktar – CEO of the Turkish company Baykar that produces Bayraktar armed drones – signed a memorandum to establish a joint training and maintenance centre for the drones in Ukraine.
“We have been waiting for this moment for a long time,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said after the signing of the memorandum with Baykar.
“This is an important event for us,” he added, according to a statement from the presidency.
Baykar will build this centre on the land that belongs to Ukraine’s defence ministry near the town of Vasylkiv, located about 20 kilometres (12 miles) from Kyiv.
Ukraine has previously bought the Bayraktar TB2 drones, Baykar’s flagship model that has been used in conflicts in Syria, Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to media reports, Kyiv plans to buy approximately 50 such devices.
The sale of drones to Kyiv, however, places Ankara in a delicate position, as Turkey also cooperates in the defence sector with Russia, Ukraine’s rival.
The Ukrainian army has been locked in a long-running conflict with separatist fighters in the eastern Donetsk and Lugansk regions since 2014 after Moscow annexed the peninsula of Crimea from Kyiv.
The conflict has killed more than 13,000.

Why are they producing TB2? I thought they'd do for a newer generation and more payload? Turkey's arms industry is selling stuff pretty fast!

. . .
Ukraine has a pretty good military industry

and Turks just sold to them

Turkish products as good as NATO with less cost

off course they will sell they stopped a entire Syrian Armoured Division

They have a lot of ideas, but they hardly go on production. They might design upgrades for their tanks, new tanks, new weapons systems not not produce them or if they do, at very small numbers.

TB2 has high cost performance and is indeed a very good UAV. However, its overall performance is not as good as the Wing Loong Ⅱ UAV at the same price. Wing Loong Ⅱ shot down TB2 many times in the Syrian, with obvious advantages.
However, the photoelectric equipment of TB2 should be MX15D, which is better than Wing Loong Ⅱ. The price of UAVs installed with the same grade of photoelectric equipment in China is higher than that of TB2.
I think it's best to buy Wing Loong Ⅱ production line and install TB2 photoelectric equipment.
BTW: TB2 has too many accessories from Western companies. For example, the ROTAX 912 engine. It is vulnerable to sanctions.

China's equivalent photoelectric system is more expensive.

Turkey seems to be playing all sides all the time as long as the price is Right. I whole heartedly support this strategy. They sold tankers to India ships to Pakistan to sink said tankers , take Indian investment in drone companies , sell drones to Pakistan to kill Indians, buy russsian s-400s and cooperate on weapons systems and are a part of NATO.

This is the sign of a true businessman. I love turkey so much

What about combat payload, etc?

Is there a German counterpart to TB2?

Is there a German counterpart to TB2?

The load and flying-range of Wing Loong Ⅱ are much larger than TB2, so the Libya National Army usually allows Wing Loong Ⅱ to ambush in advance with high flying-range, then follow TB2 back, and finally attack the command terminal of TB2. This is why TB2 lost dozens of aircraft in Syria&Libya.

BTW: Libyan battlefield, GNA and LNA UAV war. TB2 lost more than 30 and Wing Loong Ⅱ lost 6 (of which 2 were shot down by LNA's own Wing Loong Ⅱ ). The Wing Loong Ⅱ of LNA comes from the UAE, not from China.

Other countries have done it way better because of their neutrality. But Erdoğan's Turkey loves to meddle here and there and interfere. In the long run, this will destroy Turkey. Constant flirting with all sides doesn't give a good name.
