SE SPC Iskra, the Ukrainian manufacturer of surveillance radar systems, is revealing details of its new multi-mission radar, called the 1L300 Mangust (Mongoose).

The Ukrainian company has developed a project for a new multi-mission radar capable detects and classifies all types of aerial threats and generates a real-time Air Situation Picture (ASP).

In a recent interview with Security Talks, director of SE SPC Iskra Yuriy Pashchenko said that the new Mangust radar will provide long-range air defense, air surveillance and fire control capabilities.
The 1L300 Mangust radar is a mobile radar that is capable of detecting and tracking both aircraft and ballistic targets and providing fire control guidance for missile interception or artillery air defense.

It will provide detecting incoming mortars, artillery shells, and missiles and inform about hostile weapon firing locations in the mode of protection against artillery fire. Also, it can detect and track aerial platforms such as drones and UAVs, tactical aerial weapons, cruise missiles, and aircraft during air surveillance.

The radar is capable of detecting and tracking both aircraft and ballistic targets and providing fire control guidance for missile interception or artillery air defense, noted Yuriy Pashchenko.

He also noted that initially the project was developed in the interests of a foreign customer and is now ready for the production of the first prototype.

The Mangust system consists of a radar unit, a control module, a cooling unit and a power generator. It can be mounted on a variety of transport platforms.

Many sources claimed that the project was funded by a customer from Saudi Arabia who was interested in obtaining a radar system similar to the ELM-2084 Multi-Mission Radar (MMR) manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).

Governor of the Saudi General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) Ahmad Al-Ohali is said to have discussed a number of strategic projects with the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Strategic Industries Oleg Urusky, on the sidelines of the International Defense Exhibition & Conference (IDEX 2021) which was held (21-25/2/21) in Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, there is talk of efforts by the Saudi Ministry of Defense to expand its partnership with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, through the conclusion of agreements for the transfer of technologies used in the production of different types of radars.

Can this technology used in AWACS aircrafts or fighter radars?

Saudi Arabia finance the project but don't have any technological input into the development of the radar so basically its not a partnership but investment where you can expect profit from its sales. Will Saudi get the technical know how for this radar system so that it can produce independently in Saudi Arabia with Saudi subsystems?

Ukrainian defense industry is actually picking up lately... I keep hearing about them in every other week with a different country in a collab...

They must be in a rush or something to safe everything west of dnipro river since they are involved in like 100s of different collabs with different countries in different projects

Many mrap projects but nothing
Many upgrades on armoured vehicles but slowly
A helicopter project but nothing
Oplot nightmare
I can't speak English good but it not mean I don't know many
If you remember Ukrainian projects on first years of separatists crisis and compare them with ukroboronprom products you can see Ukraine is too slow in military industry
Many many corruption cases in Ukraine
Ukrainian defence industry is gold mine but without foreign support they can't win

Lets give Ukraine the benefit of the doubt because they seem to be very motivated as of late and in many projects. They are probably the least to doubt at this point due to their own security issues
