u.s. launched overnight airstrikes on the Taliban to support afghan forces

Not quite. After Aug 31st, it’s unlikely the strikes will continue. So for the next 40 days they should expect air strikes, similar to when the Soviets withdrew and carried out punitive/“softening up” strikes on behalf of the satraps in Kabul.

question is where did the strikes originate from? do the amreekans still have secret air strips in ghani regime controlled areas? and will the Taliban now target the withdrawing amreekan forces? and considering that amreeka didn't say where the strikes took place, one has to ask if these strikes really happen or did they just pass gas to give the ghani regime a false sense of security?

Probably carriers off the coast of Pakistan or fighters from the gulf; aka “over the horizon”. Potential retaliation probably depends on how severe the strikes were and to the Talib’s overall mission/strategy. Some kind of strike probably occurred but we will probably only find out well into the next 12-24 hours, when he dust settles.

BTW, what seems to be being set up in Kabul is what is a called a “Trip wire force” should the force be attack it will give the pretext to send in additional forces to counter attack. So despite, their losses, doubt the Talibs will retaliate, only tighten the siege of the overall city of 6-7 Million.

great podcast about tripwire forces, and spoiler alert, they are ultimately futile. But it explains what maybe about to happen in Kabul. Also, don’t be surprised if a lot of Ukrainian and other Eastern European contractors start arriving to maintain ANSDF Equipment, funded by Uncle Sam but nominally contracted by the Kabul regime.

Fair enough...I was expecting that, after the speed of AT taking over, America has to do something to save face in international media.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if we see the Talibs get pushed further back from just outside the cities, so that when the US withdraws by the end of August the situation doesn’t look as dire for the Kabul regime.

After a “decent interval”; probably after the midterm elections in 2022, all bets will be off, but by then a noticeable amount of time will have passed, it won’t be said the US was to blame if Kabul falls. It will be said the Afghan forces lacked the “Will” and “Leadership” to stay in the fight.

The whole world is criticizing US decision, Not gonna say that America is wrong about leaving Afghanistan, but they will try to keep AT at bay for while so they don't take over right after the Americans leave, biden is on record say ANA can easily protect its cities and borders as they have the best training and equipment.

As I mentioned few weeks back that Taliban will face considerable resistance if they try to enter Kabul, there are highly trained ruthless multi national private contractors waiting for them …

No it won't. The 600 are targets and all mercenaries

Strikes were to destroy equipment the Talibs took from the ANA. The social media posts by the Talibs with the equipment was probably being used as effective propaganda/IO; IMHO strikes done to prevent further loss of face for the ANA.

The captured ANA equipment is basically bomb magnets, probably weren’t going to change anything on the ground anyway.
