WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army will in conjunction with NASA test a new aircraft capable of reaching speeds of up to 4,499 Mph.

The supersonic X-51A WaveRider test, which takes just 5 minutes (300 seconds) because of the enormous speed, will be manned and unmanned.

The plane has the ability to travel from New York to Brussels in just one hour. But commercial use of the aircraft is still a while away as more tests need to be conducted.

The Waverider is currently stationed at the Edwards Airforce base in the Mohave Desert in California.

The test includes taking the plane on top of a B52-bomber to the Pacific Ocean. Once above the ocean, the craft will be released during full flight.

Barely seconds after the engines start, the plane should reach 4,349Mph. After a few minutes flying and reaching an altitude of 13 miles, the Waverider is expected to plunge into the ocean.

Robert Mercier, who works for the U.S. Air Force research lab says that if the test is successful, it will be a gigantic step forward in aviation.

“Flying at hyper-sonic speeds is like going from a propeller plain to a jet.”

“Hypersonic planes would mean a new milestone in Aviation history and I think we are ready for that.”

^ If its true, it will be faster than S-400

Congratulations to Uncle Sam :usflag:

Mate, any link for this Post???

all i see is a scale model slung under another plane....
The finished product is still many years away...
