From the British Daily Express paper. It's absolutely sickening...

Two sisters sentenced to be raped in India after their brother ran off with married woman

TWO sisters have been sentenced to be raped and then paraded naked as punishment for their brother running off and potentially impregnating a married woman.

Daily Express | Saturday 29 August 2015

The sick ruling was ordered by an unelected all-male council in a remote village in the Baghpat district of northern India, just outside Delhi.

The girls aged 23 and 15 have been forced to leave their home with the remainder of their family according to Amnesty International.

News outlets in the country have revealed that the sister's brother, Ravi, fell in love with a woman from the Jat caste, a higher caste than him and his family who are Dalit the lowest in India's caste system and are referred to as 'untouchable'.

On July 31 the village council deemed the appropriate punishment for Ravi running away with a married woman from a higher caste was for his sisters to be raped.

Amnesty International have launched a petition appealing for India's authorities to intervene.

In the appeal the human rights NGO said: "Unelected village councils such as this are widespread in parts of India.

"More often than not they are made up of older men from dominant castes, who prescribe rules for social behaviour and interaction in villages.

"Nothing could justify this abhorrent punishment. It's not fair. It's not right. And it's against the law."

Indian villages ruled by goons and have strict cast based system where low level or schedule cast members don't have any rights their lives meant nothing to elite class member they rape, kidnap and kill low cast women and no one can do anything even Indian Govt because of losing votes in that area.

True, very sad situation.
Yes it is quite a sad situation, indeed.
First off, i am not a fan of caste system, i read somewhere there are some superior casts, some not very much. Since, it is religion i will not continue or criticize it.
Secondly, village council and such systems are the worst thing we have in South Asia, we have some sort of Jirga's, if i am not wrong. This does not reflect justice system in India, yes, but the government should play it's part and protect these poor women.
@jamahir , your thoughts......

I can't imagine what those girls must be feeling, the feeling of fear and hopelessness!

cast system is every where in the world, look what is happening in USA with blacks or Muslims/turks facing in Germany, need not to say anything abt Rohingya. But regretful thing is that same system in one form or another is also in Pak. Even in religious sector we have Shah Sbs or Syeds no matter what sort of character they have they are superior to other Muslims.

Its a bit more complicated than that with the USA where there are huge amounst of successful black people but also huge amounts who would rather sell crack and shoot each other over facebook argeuments or Germany, where alot of the Turks that are there are quite unscrupulous individuals but there are plenty of success stories, same as the UK. I know a few Turks from when I was younger, a small amount were studying/workign hard and a fair few were involved in far worse things, some in heroin trade, one was a crazy fucker who drove his BMW around trying to cause trouble and had machetes in the back, the others were just involved in some form of criminal activity from selling stolen goods to just general violence, met few Turks in the UK that werent involved in criminality.

Sure you can use a caste system as an excuse but theres always a few particular population groups that wherever they go in the world tend to cause trouble, like Somalis, is the world racist against them as they seem to cause trouble wherever they go from Africa, to Asia or Europe or as most countries where they settle can attest, are they just very violent people by nature.

There is a caste system in India of course but there is a class system in other countries, I know just as many successful muslims/black people etc as white people, the main divide is between social status which is what the caste system is really about but in India im sure its just who has lighter skin colour.

This story though is a few days old, its an illegal court in a tribal community by a group of people who even Indians consider bad.

really blacks are part of a caste like system in the U.S

I guess you are right it would be

Jews
Whites
Asians
Latinos
Muslims
Blacks

if you born black that means you'll never be at the top or at least on the same level as a white person :disagree:

it's a coincidence I just happened to see a video of a black crying about such a system,

@jamahir , your thoughts......

technically, there are multiple injustices in this case...

1. cultural enmity towards the idea of male-female romance - the man and lady who eloped most probably were in love before the lady was forcibly married off by her family.

2. family oppression - the eloped lady was married off against her wishes.

3. enmity towards the female ( misogyny ) - the culture created a regressive system of "shame" and when occassions arrived for what the culture considered crime, the female could be easily burdened with shame and publicly humiliated ( or killed, in many cases ).

4. social structure oppression ( caste system ) - this is this case would have been not the sole factor but a enhancer to the above points.

5. village councils - these village councils ( khaps ) are not enlightened people empowered by some revolution, but are stupid, reactionary and exploitative set of people who are against true freedoms and who should have been abolished in 1947.

6. police illegality - non-enlightened police laws would have made the local police to be in cahoots with the stupid village council and the police would have gone ( anti-humanly ) in search of the eloped couple on the behest of the village council.

Secondly, village council and such systems are the worst thing we have in South Asia, we have some sort of Jirga's, if i am not wrong.

indeed, these village councils are spread all over south asia.

This does not reflect justice system in India, yes, but the government should play it's part and protect these poor women.

the indian legal system and really the constitution should be changed and simplified... for example, i don't think "honor killing" is really a declared crime in indian legality in the manner that dowry is.
